If you are in your yard, playing with your kids and dog, why should you show them a damn thing? This whole ID thing is an overreach.
So what should cops do when they see someone they think fits the description of a wanted criminal?

You're basically insinuating they should do nothing, think that maybe that was that criminal, but we'll just keep right on going. Then you same posters would be lighting up cops when that criminal kills a 3 year old in a drive by gone wrong and wondering WHY DIDN'T HE JUST DETAIN THAT GUY THAT FIT THE DESCRIPTION!!!

I'm curious, while it is not a perfect analogy what would you say to a cop at your door who just wants to come in and check the serial number on all your guns because some were stolen and a person told the cops it was you. I mean you could just cooperate.

It's really not a good analogy at all IMO.

Because all I have to say it go get a warrant, and it's over. This guy didn't have that at his disposal, he didn't have an easy plan or thing he could say to deescalate like in your example.

Innocent until proven guilty. Guy wasn't acting like a criminal, he playing in his front yard. The burden of proof lies with the over zealous police officer.

Ok, so the cops did their job, that's what you're saying.

The guy was innocent until proven guilty. The cops did their due diligence and let him go, that's what you're saying.

In the tense clip, Deputy Garrett Lindley from the Harris County Police Department can be seen holding Evan’s arm behind his back, and repeatedly calling him by a different name, insisting he has a warrant out for his arrest in Louisiana.

‘You don’t know my name, so how can you tell me I have a warrant in Louisiana?’ Evans asks the officer.

During the five minute long exchange, the white deputy repeatedly asks to see Evans’ ID, referring to him as ‘Quentin’ - the name of the fugitive - and questions him about a stolen dog.

‘My name is not Quentin,’ Evans says while refusing to show his identification. ‘No, I’m not going to be the next [black person] you kill, no.’

‘I’m not going to let you put me in handcuffs…You’re in my yard, on my property…you need to step back and calm down’ Evans adds.

Shortly afterwards, another officer pulls up outside the home in Houston and shows Evans a photograph of the man they’re said to be searching for.

‘Doesn’t that look a lot like you?’ Deputy Lindley can be heard asking.

‘No, that don’t look like me,’ Evans retorts, later elaborating in his caption of the video that the officers had shown him a photo of a black man with dreadlocks who appeared to be over 50-years-old.

I found your problem. All this crap could have been avoided if he had just shown his ID from the beginning. If a cop stops you and wants to see your ID why would you not show it??? Is it some big secret or something??

frick that. You come on my property and start making demands because you're a fricking idiot who can't see I'm not the guy you're looking for?

frick cops like that. Refusing to admit he's wrong and just doubling down on idiocy.

Honest question, when a cop sees someone he thinks fits the description of a wanted criminal, what is he supposed to do?

Nothing, just let it go and keep going?

You would be the contrarian here.

It's pretty obvious early he has the wrong guy, but doubles down.

Seems like 50/50 at worst, but more likely that more people are on my side on this one, so kinda weird that I'm the contrarian when I probably have the majority stance.

That's just a long way of me saying you're trying too hard.

Do you think when cops walk up to actually wanted guys that they ever say, "Nah man, that's not me, but I ain't giving you no ID"

You think that ever happens?

This isn't a police state as much as people like you wish it was.

A guy on his front lawn enjoying life with his family is protected from intrusive policing like this.

Being on your own property doesn’t insulate you from anything. If a drug dealer is on his own property...or a wife-beater...

What about when you're completely innocent and a dumb cop thinks every black guy with dreads is the same guy?

One of the funniest things on message boards is when you know you have someone boxed in and better yet, you know that they know you have them boxed in, and instead of slinking away, they just keep replying but avoiding your questions.

It's never not funny to just keep posing the same question and watch them continue to be cringeworthy with each reply.

I've addressed your question already. Quit copying and pasting it acting like I'm avoiding it.

Sure, approach and do your due diligence, but when it's obvious you're wrong, don't try to escalate it because you can't admit you're wrong.
