I'm taking my chances and asking out of ignorance on the OT, but...
quote:

No one is saying the world is ending but if you think it’s no big deal and it’s all fake news i invite you to come shadow me tomorrow morning

Is this because of a panic set in with everyone trying to flood the ERs to find answers, or are we seeing that many legitimate cases all at once in the NOLA area. Also, should majority of those be self-quarantining, too early to tell, or they're in the right place?

I gotcha but what happens if severe covid cases double or triple or more? DOn't have the answers, it just seems shaky

Short version? We're fricked.

Long version? We'll take care of as many as we can until we run out of space, vents, or staff. At some point it will hit a wall. Just depends on what it is. I still highly doubt it gets that bad.

And i hope he/she gets better, but you are making a declarative statement that this applies to all (correct me if i'm wrong) when overwhelming majority of serious cases are affecting the elderly and those with underlying health conditions.

Did this virus mutate to start going after the healthy? What are you considering middle age?

Pretty immature OP. Just because today some aren't busy yet doesn't mean in two weeks they won't be overloaded and totally out of control. To be an American PATRIOT and help President Trump, we need to stay away from people, clean up often and NIP THIS IN THE BUD. At that point, President Trump WALKS in with re-election because it was under control . If we let this virus spread, he's going to lose. End of story.

Yeah buddy you clearly have an agenda here. We’ll find it.

When you have a bunch of Mayors and Governors who don't understand healthcare...who are calling for the Corps of Engineers to build temp ICU's or turn hotels into new ICU's...with no thought as to who would staff these beds or monitor these ventilated patients it is a shite show and ridiculous. They are scaring people for political soundbites or trying to look Presidential when they are not. My agenda is to let people know that the cases are low..the deaths are ridiculously low, and actually expected from a virus of any type. You and others who are pissed at my message are having a fit because it shows that those spreading terror, at this point in this crisis, are doing much more harm than good and without reason. When the hospitals actually get overrun then we will deal with that REAL message. That IS NOT today..

Chill bro. Family member is a treating MD, not a patient. And I'm just relaying the information I was told, its not a "declaration" or a debate lol. As of Monday, all patients referenced previously were between 45-60 yo.

In New Orleans, space is starting to be an issue. Already having the talks of sending adults with Covid-19 to Children's Hospital because they aren't feeling the squeeze as hard. Also, legal is having some of those hard discussions with families that have family members on a vent that are brain dead or similar to see if it is time to withdraw care to free up vented beds.

I have a regular office job in corporate real estate, but I work a pt job at local hospital (can get as many hours I want). They have clamped down on access to the hospital and there's sanitizer/hand soap everywhere. Have seen fellow employees steal wipes, though.

I'm a med student at LSU-NO, currently rotating at UMC. Students were pulled from clinical rotations after going in Monday morning. Prior to that, we were told to avoid seeing any patients on respiratory precautions, or anyone with fever/cough, which is a pretty large % of patients. Also, students were told not to use any PPE, which is already running low.

Walking through UMC, obviously there were considerably more patients on strict respiratory precautions compared to normal. The hospital as of Monday was not saturated, and actually looked like a ghost town thanks to limiting visitors, sending home non-essential personnel, and cancelling office visits/procedures not deemed acutely necessary. However, if #'s continue to rise at the predicted rate, I expect NO hospitals will start to develop problems quickly, probably within the next week, 2 if we're lucky. Every day more and more COVID rule-out patients come in. As I'm sure everyone is aware, ventilators will become scarce and PPE is tough to find readily-available.

Of course, teaching medical students is not exactly a top priority during these times, but I couldn't imagine having to act as a school administrator through this. Scheduling of clinical rotations between 3rd and 4th year is extremely complicated, with important deadlines for trainings/residency applications/graduation requirements scattered all throughout the year. Should students continue their rotations because 'this is what they signed up for'? Is there a chance that hospitals & staff may become overwhelmed to the point of needing student's around to give an extra helping hand? But wait, is it wrong to have students paying $1000's in tuition continue to enter hospitals with increasing #'s of COVID cases, putting themselves and their families at risk? If we do send students in, are we essentially sending hundreds of vectors into the hospital and out into the community every day?

I'm on board with administration pulling students for now. I think with cases rising, we're simply going to contribute to community spread by continuing to go to the hospital. Whatever happens, it's logistical nightmare.

Are you suggesting they have no underlying medical conditions?

I just hate people sharing the same posts from a few people. Saying shite like, you don't know what it's like until you see the ICU. People dying everywhere, it's horrific, I couldn't stop crying.

Like where are all these stacked up bodies?

None of Scruffy's info is relevant if Scruffy works at a Scruffilicous area where the virus hasn't hit. Scruffy also seems to have an inordinate amount of free time for anyone gainfully employed for Scruffy to post on the OT.

So what’s the point of posting?

We already know any age can catch the virus
We also know that it can kill ANYONE with other health issues

Many think it's not a joke, just a huge overreaction. I mean y'all are basically pissy because someone that is dead will remain dead.
