Kind of quiet where I am. Our ER has been quiet so far. I think people are afraid to come for the stupid shite they usually do. Collection devices backordered across the country.

ER is a ghost town. Only people who are actually having an emergency are showing up

Still a scary time at work, anticipating and preparing for the worst. Lots of workers panicked and scared.

This is the problem. People are scared, and because they are scared they make rash, feel good decisions.

The PPE shortage worry is a real problem for most hospitals.

This is a very real concern and is a result of people being scared but also China being shut down

Very frustrating we didn’t do more hospital prep months ago. We should have launched some stimulus to stop elective surgeries 2 months ago and pulled nurses from non icu positions into training. A couple of weeks of training and staffing of our hospitals would have gone a lot further then many of these other measures the government has taken.

Hindsight is always 20:20

There really wasn’t much known about this virus 2 months ago.

It’s just going to get worse as we get more and more testing done.

Nope. All that does is drive up the active cases. It does nothing to drive up the cases that require medical intervention.

It will get worse, but that has nothing to do with testing. It is because the peak virus spread will be last weekend when we finally took the social distancing seriously. Therefore, caseload will peak this coming weekend (average 5 day incubation) and continue until the end of March. At that point, the number of new cases requiring hospital beds should level off and even decrease some. The total number of hospital beds required will continue to increase, because the worst cases will take up a bed for many weeks. I’d guess mid-April to hit the hospitalization peak.

All this is for the NOLA area only. The rest of the country might be a few days ahead of us, because a lot of places self-quarantined earlier than we did.

We have 6 that have been tested in our hospital in palm beach county. Unfortunately have no idea if they’re positive as the tests are sent to Utah and it takes 5-8 days for a result. We’ve actually discharged a few home without knowing with orders to self quarantine. None of ours have been in very critical and all the symptoms have somewhat resolved like most viral patients after a hospital stay. This includes some over 70.

We have the resources to become a testing center in our lab but elected against it out of fear of every other hospital in the area them sending all their suspected patients here and overwhelming the place.

I wish New Orleans was like that. Those people call 911 for everything. 8 people and 3 cars at one household, but no one can bring big mama to the doctor for her shortest of breath.
Everyone is a diabetic, or what they do is call in a seizure because they learned the calls are prioritized and will get a unit faster.
Now everyone is calling in every sick feeling possible.
Got a call yesterday to check their temperature...aaaannnd while you're here can you grab me a glass of water and my robe. This is an everyday occurrence.

Norma people don’t realize how many stupid people, especially in LA, treat 911 and ERs like it’s a walk in clinic for a few coughs.

I have an immediate family member in ICU at a public medical center. Word is that the world is not ending (yet) but this is not something to frick with. Average worst cases are middle aged with no pre-existing condition. Most were symptomatic for a while before realizing what it wasn't normal flu. Prob were exposed back in February/ Mardi Gras time frame.

I think a lot of it has to do with lack of experience in the private sector among administrators.

I have a buddy who's a doctor in private practice. He's a brilliant doctor. He's also a terrible businessman.

Cute, but stupid. All you have to do is look at Facebook to see how many idiots vote on the other side as well. And there's no shortage of them that show up for stupid shite on a daily basis.

Doesn't mean they all have covid. The ICU can be nothing but vents and no one have it. It's not unusual.

Considering the known supply shortages, I'm currently upset unnecessary procedures are still being performed.
