Why did this become something that we need to worry about the last couple of years? It’s advertised on all of conservative media. We are led to believe that it’s inevitable that someone will steal your title and sell your house out from under you.
I did a quick search and it seems to be an extremely rare occurrence and the “insurance” couldn’t prevent it happening anyway. It’s merely an activity monitor. See below.
AI Overview
Yes, buying "title lock" is widely considered a waste of money. It is not actual insurance. Instead, it is just a monthly subscription service that monitors public property records. It does not stop fraudsters from forging your deed, and it only alerts you after a fraudulent transfer or lien has already been recorded.

Worthless based on probability, prevention probability, and cure.
It's unlikely to happen.
It won't stop it from happening.
It won't make it better if it does happen.

Check with your local Clerk of Court/Registrar of Deeds to see if they offer monitoring. My Clerk has a system that will alert you should anything be recorded with respect to property that you designate.
Not much of a prophylactic measure, but it'll shorten the time to discover the frickery.

Brilliant marketing.
Make people afraid of something (that is very remote).
Sell them something that makes them less afraid of that thing.
Profit.

I get so tired of hearing about Ruff Greens, Z Factor, Christian Jew Alliance, Byrna Laucher et al., to the point that I wouldn’t buy any of them, out of principle.

The title industry should be eliminated with blockchain.

Every time my wife sees an ad for something like this, she wants to buy. Water leak protection, title lock, life lock, she watches too much Fox. Fox has become the screw paranoid boomers out of their money network.
Even worse are the "charities" on Fox. Old Jews, puppies, cats, kids with birth defects, starving millions.

They wouldn't advertise if they didn't get customers. That doesn't speak too well of Fox's audience.

Boomers aren't buying that shite.

You're not wrong, however, scan through the channels, every show that caters to boomers, irrespective of politics, has the same crap. I'm 76, in IT, I work to teach boomers how to avoid scammers.
