Yes. I'm clarifying the post, not arguing it.

Anyone that buys property in an HOA deserves all the ridicule and headache that goes with it.

Not everyone is willing to risk their neighbors putting hogs in their front yard or painting their house 12 different colors.

Even wealthy people are idiots I'm afraid.

I live in a nice area and have VERY eccentric neighbors. HOA is needed to kept them in check.

fines and interest will build up. You will then be responsible for the the cost of the lien filings, which have to be renewed every few years

If in Louisiana, then the HoA can foreclose on your house if debts add up enough to get their money.

I would get a copy of your HoA covenant agreement and a copy of the subdivision plat plan. a lot of information in those two documents can be used to fight the HoA...

If in EBR, you can get the pat plans from the Tax Assessors office website.

I thought that's what you were saying. Just seeing if we were on the same page.

his.. or does anyone else have a fence in violation -

A couple of my neighbors got into a feud a few years ago, and one turned the other in to the HOA and the town of Collierville for being out of code. Later that week I was up at 4 am getting ready to turkey hunt, and I saw the guy who had been turned in walking up the fence line between the houses and golf course with a flashlight. Dude was looking for anyone else in some sort of violation so he could throw it back at the HOA

Yeah they can fine you and put lien on your property

..which is absolutely ridiculous. They should never have that much authority.

Its wide open for abuse.

So the pond is community property and you fenced so close to it it pissed people off....yeah, you need to move your fence

It really wont be that expensive and you signed the damn documents saying you would abide by the rules at some point.

HOA’s can be a pain in the arse but usually they keep assholes from being assholes. Which is kinda what it sounds like is happening here.

Cuts both ways. It's nice to know my neighbors won't have an el camino on cinder blocks in their front yard, but if Tina-who-wants-to-speak-with-a-manager becomes the HOA President then you're in for a shitstorm of nonsense. Pic of Tina attached for reference:

It's kind of weird, I've never lived under an HOA and never had shitty neighbors. Amazing

You have probably never had shitty neighbors, because YOU are the shitty neighbor.

Go to the next meeting in Vickie and Tom’s garage, but before you go, spray yourself down with fart spray.

We had similar issues in our HOA. We have many ponds that handle the drainage and eventually drain to the bayou. The HOA needs access for occasional dredging, or repair the fountains. HOA reached compromises with owners

Nah. Nosy bitches who don't respect property rights are shitty neighbors

I've never had a complaint and get along great with my neighbors

Amazing what common sense and decency will do.

Crazy that you'd think you have the ability to magically know if neighbors you've never met are shitty or not.

20 years without a crash. Maybe I just know how to avoid bad drivers like you know how to avoid shitty neighbors.

Crazy how I have that ability. Amazing

9 year homeowner, 3 separate homes/3 separate HOAs. Literally zero headache, but nice try, I guess?

PS: I’ll be in the house for 30 years +

Not if you don't do what they say and they put a lien on the house and have it sold out from under you.

Or I don't live in a place with a lot of nosy or shitty people

But then I don't blow a gasket if I see a car parked in a driveway like shitty neighbors do.
