Anyone that buys property in an HOA deserves all the ridicule and headache that goes with it.

So I have an HOA and a pond behind my house. I put a fence up to the pond and got a letter from the HOA stating that Even though I am on my property, I have the fence too close to the water and that I am in violation of the covenants. If I refuse to move it does anyone know what they can do?
PS: I’ll be in the house for 30 years +

Not everyone is looking to do shite with their yard.
They're a great insurance against shitty neighbors, they can come in very handy for that.

They can stop garbage coming to your house, prevent you from going to any neighborhood activities, etc. If it's fence related pretty sure they can take it down if not approved. I'm not sure if a lein in your house can happen but I guess anything can be in HOA covenants.

They are not all like that. I've lived in 3, never heard a peep from any of him, have no clue who they are.

Couple of questions:
Is there actually wording in the covenants regarding distance from water?
What covenants, if any, were in place when you bought the house (that is what you are bound to).
