Ive had both Highlanders and Grand Cherokee's. While the Cherokee looks nicer in my opinion, it's no where as reliable as the Highlander.

Getting into a better looking vehicle when you leave the house should be worth something. Whether it's worth the difference in resale value is up to the individual.

Are you joking? The 4Runner is easily the most reliable car produced today, behind a Tacoma or Land Cruiser.

Wife has a '14 Highlander I have a '16 GC Outlander
Highlander - Total mom car, interior is pretty good, holds resale value like a mother fricker. We had dealers recently begging us to trade it in and were gonna give us crazy good prices.
4 Runner- Looked at this before i got my Jeep, Total guy cars, and the interior is dog shite....wrapped in cat shite. But it should last forever.
Jeep- Love my Outlander, didn't think the upgrades to the summit were worth it for the extra 5-7k. Haven't had any problems with mine, but put ~12k/year on it, Highlander is the workhorse in the family. Interior is fricking awesome IMO, rides great, looks great in and out IMO.
You don't need a 3rd row.
If it truly will be the family car, I'd say get the Highlander. One big pain in the arse on my jeep is teh back row seats don't move back so your kids are kicking the shite out of me. Highlander you can get the 3rd row that lays flat and captains chairs that slide far back so those little shits leave you alone.

Gc with hemi. I believe the 4runners only come with one engine still, and the interior is very bland / less than top notch for the price you pay. Overrated vehicle in my opinion.

4Runner will have the best resale and last longest.
Keep seeing these VW Atlas's and I kind of like them. They are big but not too big, have a big third row too. The third row in the 4runner sucks, but so does VW maintenance. Those 4runners from 97-05 are going to last forever. The new ones never seem to lose quality.

The CR predicted reliability on the JGC is 2 out of 5, both the Highlander and 4Runner are 5 out of 5. The longer you keep a vehicle the more important that is.

Just went through it with the wife and ended up going Grand Cherokee. The 4Runner is slow, cramped, and gets crappy mileage. The Highlander sits too low.
I did buy the extended warranty though.

My girl has a Grand Cherokee Trailhawk and it is PIMP. I am sure it will never touch dirt while she has it but it is badass just for driving around the city.

We just traded in a 2013 Grand Cherokee last night. Never once had an issue with it but I hated it. I would not drive it and of course we ended up taking my truck everywhere for the last 4 years when we went anywhere together.
Picked up an Armada that some lady bought and drove for a week before she decided it was to big for her ( )
Used car price with 350 miles on it.
Wife loves it

Except the traverse is garbage to drive. Has terrible blind spots. And in the real world, gets shittastic fuel mileage.
