No problem with the $8K/year for vacations. You only live once.

Yeah, I didn't address the food comment, but in SF a $1K food bill per month for a family of three doesn't seem too bad.
I have a family of four and we're probably above that number between groceries and eating out.

Exactly. 20 bucks is expensive for a sandwich, no doubt. But these guys remember "it was expensive" then blow it out of proportion in their minds. I remember lunches being ~15-20 bucks per person.

I was thinking that the food bill was low, especially for San Francisco, but everyone in here was bitching about things being too expensive, so I wasn't going to mention it
I'm pretty sure I spent well over that when I lived in New Orleans, and I'm sure San Francisco is more expensive than New Orleans.
