Well at least you made it clear you have no clue what you’re talking about for us

There are plenty of middle class singles and couples in New Orleans. Families, not so much. To afford a decent house and private school, you’re talking upper middle class.

Is this supposed to be expensive or something?

Nola is extremely expensive when you consider the lack of professional jobs available. It’s real estate prices are inflated by old money, bougie boutique reputation for rich outsiders, and lack of real estate, not by the amount of good jobs available

Nola has consistent price per sq ft as Nashville, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, without even a fraction of the jobs

Yet we still can’t keep the rift raft out.

We got lucky and brought our house from a family member on the cheap. Did some nice renovations to help with the stress of having a smaller house.

The house is now worth more than double what I paid for it.

I really wish my dad would have kept my grandmother's house (his mother). She lived right off Orleans Ave. near City Park. That house would be the same. Of course, it would have been destroyed in Katrina and we would have had to put some major work into it, but still.

At least you're honest about the situation. There are some people who are in the same boat and they're all like, "sorry you're poor and couldn't afford it..." Yet, they were able to afford it because they got it for a lot less than $450,000 (if not given to them in an estate). If I was given a house or acquired it for cheap then hell yeah I'd love to live in that part of New Orleans in an older house like that. I just love New Orleans (especially City Park area).

Literally no one says that.

I've heard countless people say that. You're not paying attention.

And neither are the rich white folks in Lakeview and uptown. Neither are the hipsters and mellinials that live four or five in a rented house so they can hang out at the frickin' bulldog or where ever.

You're right there are no "average joes" getting murdered in Orleans parish and they aren't getting murdered there because there aren't any average Joes who live there. There is no meaningful middle class in Orleans parish.

The only people who live in Orleans parish are the majority of poor blacks who in large part don't own property and the rich whites who rent to them.

There's a very small sliver of middle class blacks out in the east and a few thousand college students uptown.

Otherwise that entire parish is rich white folks and dirt poor blacks.

Well then consider yourself schooled. If you live in Orleans parish then you live in one of the few cities in this country that has the social, political and economic profile of a small developing nation.
