Ask if the death penalty is on the table. Defense attorneys love to hear that from potential jurors.
that's the first thing I ask, don't care it it's a jaywalking jury trial

Tell them you believe in jury nullification. That will get you out with a quickness.

Well in EBR there was a computer mixup and anyone that had moved to the parish in the past like 5 years never had their name added to the jury pool.

More likely it's that people can't afford to be there as others have mentioned in this thread. If you have a job that is based on commission and tips you're losing money for what is usually some low life.
The only time I was called I was 23 and it was my first job out of college that didn't give you any pay for jury duty. So I was losing money at a time I really needed to generate some just because some jackass assaulted his ex wife and took their kid. The crime was committed in a county south of mine but because the public opinion in that county was so bad they couldn't get an unbiased jury there. When we had to fill out the questionnaire I said I already believed he was guilty from everything I've heard so I was bias as well. Most people must have done this because after selecting 3 jurors they came to a plea deal. Still was a waste of a day and a half of my time and I missed two days pay for pennies. It could have been worse though.
Right now I wouldn't mind it as much because I have a job that pays you while at jury duty. But I can completely see how people want to get out of it if they don't work 9-5, are commission/tip based, or are job hunting.
Also I wouldn't want any part of a big time criminal trial. I'm not putting myself in danger for pennies.

I'm late 40's and only gotten a summons twice. Once I got out of it because it for Federal District court 2 hours drive away and I was in school. I was kind of bummed because Federal District court would be pretty interesting.
The other time was local.

Do your damn duty as an American Citizen. We constantly bitch about how the judicial system is trash, yet it seems everyone wants to avoid being part of a "jury of their peers". The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.

So has our OP been sent to lockup on a contempt of court charge yet after following all of the great advice in this thread?

Light up a cigarette and smoke it in 2 drags. I get called every 2 years, my wife has never been called.

Do your civic duty

Good luck, I never even got the chance. Sat in courtroom for 3 hours, got moved to an annex building until 8 pm, when they took the first 12 jurors they interviewed

For me it not wanting to do my civic duty it's the sitting around. If you call me in for jury duty make damn sure you put me on a trial. You have to tell your job that you might be away from work for an unspecified time and that you won't know until the night before is complete BS.
I think the jury selection needs to hit the retired people and those that are on unemployment a little harder.

When asked a question simply reply:
"I dont know if he did what he is accused of but Im sure he is guilty of something. Is the death penalty an option?"

If I’m ever wrongly accused of something, these are not the demographics that I want on the jury

If they refer to you as Sir or whichever you claim to be make sure and put them in their place about assuming gender.

Tell them you’re a Trump supporter who believes in the death penalty for all accused of a crime.
You’re welcome.
