Why do people always bitch about jury duty? It's free time away from work

Alot of places if you don't work, you don't get paid. I'd rather use my vacation days for something I enjoy doing. Not everyone works for the guvment.

It was kind of boring at times, but I tried my best not get dismissed. Jury duty is an important civic duty and I'd want someone like me on the jury were I ever to face a jury trial.

Just bring a book to read or a book of crossword puzzles or something. There's a lot of sitting around and waiting. I sat around in the potential juror pool for 3 days before being dismissed at the end of the third day. If you have a college degree, you'll most likely get dismissed.

many people don't get paid from their normal job whenever they are on jury duty. The fact is that most people can't afford to be in jury duty for more than 2 to 3 days

Last time I went, they gave everyone an option to defer to another week if they got in line and set a time to go back.

15 minutes after all the deferrals were done, I got dismissed for the week.

I’d it is criminal the defendant will plea when he sees the jury bring formed

If it is civil it will settle

Or some technicality will dismiss the whole process.

I’ve been called like 5-6 times. I’ve been home before lunch every time

Going for my third time on 10/18. This is over about a 12 year period.

First time, sent home after the "interview" on a civil trial.

Second time, about three years ago, was an alternate on a week long criminal trial.

I have a feeling that about 75 of that 100 won’t be dismissed and both sides will feel a lot of pressure to select them.

Louisiana prohibits an employer from discharging or taking any other adverse employment action against an employee for being called to serve or serving jury duty, so long as the employee gives the employer reasonable notice of the jury obligation after receiving the summons. Employers who unlawfully discharge employees for serving jury duty may be subject to fines of not less than $100 and not more than $1,000, for each discharge and may be ordered to reinstate the employee with the same wage rate and benefits they enjoyed prior to the discharge. Louisiana Stat. 23:965.

When employees are called or subpoenaed to server on a state petit or grand jury, or central jury pool, the employer is required to pay up to one (1) days wages and the employee cannot be required to take any vacation, sick, or other accrued personal leave while responding to the call or subpoena. Employers who unlawfully discharge employees for serving jury duty may be subject to fines of not less than $100 and not more than $1,000, for each discharge and may be ordered pay the employee one day’s wages without reduction in vacation, sick, or other personal leave. So then the only people who can serve as jurors are those comfortable enough financially or those with a cushy job. So no justice by poor people, no justice for poor people, the system works.

Except that you still get paid welfare even if you are getting called in for jury duty.

The poor can still serve. It just tends to be the lowest common denominator which manages to show up.

Quit being a bitch and do your civic duty. Ridiculous how everyone is too important to do a little jury duty but then wants to complain when the only jurors left to pick from make stupid decisions.
