Hearing Aids

The audiologist correctly recommended hearing aids for mild hearing loss, especially high pitches. The cost is $6500 for the premier vs $5600 for the middle grade and $4000 for the lowest grade. Life expectancy is 5-10 years?. Does this seem reasonable for good hearing aids?

Costco has some good hearing aids for less than $2k.
There are a handful of companies that are pioneering AI in hearing aids with remarkable success, and those run about $6k. Fortell is one of them. Oticon is high end and those run about $6,500.

That sounds about right (ha ha). Seriously though, avoid private practice markups. You can get better pricing through an ENT associated with a major hospital system. Ask for a trial pair before you decide.

Go to Costco and pay $1,500 for a pair that connects to your phone and all the whizbang crap the $6500 ones have.
Zero difference except the price.

Hearing aids through those private practices are a huge scam. I should know. I have had multiple pairs through those places paid for by the government and insurance.
The other posters are correct. The ones at Costco and even Amazon are the same thing.

I have the 6k ones…they are starkeys…paid 500 after insurance but I had a need because I had a sensineural loss of hearing in one ear that required a larger amplifier in that ear so my stuff is all off balance and the cheaper ones would not have worked

I went with the $5600 for the middle grade.
Very pleased. I can actually hear now and actively participate in conversations.
Don’t have to ask people to repeat themselves.
1 year checkup was today.
In my situation, it was well worth the expense especially when the cost is annualized over the lifespan that you get from the hearing aids.

The dog chewed up my dad's expensive hearing aids so he tried some $100 ones. The volume was ok but the sound quality was awful. He couldn't pick voices out of the background noise. You get what you pay for.

I got mine at Sam’s for $500.Audiologist programmed them based on my hearing test.They work very well for me.Connect to my phone with Bluetooth,I can adjust the volume,etc.
I have severe hearing loss in my L ear from shooting without hearing protection.R ear is mild loss..
Weird thing is I can hear quite a few people without them but other people such as wife,grandsons1 stepson and 1 dtr in law I can’t understand crap what they’re saying.1 stepson and 1 dtr in law I can’t hear fine without them.
The audiologist that helped me I had no trouble heating and understanding her.

Costco top of line includes rechareable, warranty, the iphone settings, auto settings for many situations, etc for $1600 is made by the same company that my Mother initially paid $6000 for.
