the pharmaceutical companies will just invent more "conditions" to treat. Of course, stopping short of developing a cure.

Other types of insurance allows for relevant data points to be baked into the equation. Health doesn’t.
There are still health insurance plans that will rate your premiums on your health.

Wait. There are people here that has told us that GLP-1s are a waste of time and you fatty’s should just do it the natural way and haul potato sacks in the fields to lose weight and not be lazy.
You should still be working out, unless you want to look like a bag of milk.

Healthcare industry bitching

That’s it! The government will soon ban them and blame it on an obscure health risk
Wasn’t there a fat pill prescription years ago that one of the side effects was “anal seepage”?
Ah, yes… “ The weight-loss product you are thinking of is orlistat (sold as the prescription drug Xenical or the over-the-counter pill Alli). It works by blocking dietary fat absorption in the gut, which frequently leads to oily anal discharge if too much fat is eaten.”

My bad: "a healthcare industry built largely around a subscription of fat people surgeries and a lifetime of drugs, other complications and follow up visits is DELIGHTED to hear those services will no longer be needed "
It just seems like you are implying the healthcare system created fat people.
The healthcare system reacted to the environment and the needs of fat people.
People will still be getting sick, autoimmune diseases, cancer, etc. I don’t know a single doctor worried about not having work. In fact most feel overworked and have waiting lists months long.
Not everything is a conspiracy. Doctors aren’t trying to keep you fat and sick.

But wait, I thought fat was healthy (said as someone who is fat as frick right now)

No, but many bureaucrats and accountants employed by the hospitals are ok with you being fat.

Health insurance premiums should have always been structured based off a person’s health KPIs.
When Uncle Richard’s pancreas and gout flair up someone has to pay the medical delivery service to drop off his oxygen tanks and dick pills.

If they cured cancer the hospitals would go broke. Look how many dialysis clinics there are. So many places for treatment. The industry Durant want cures.
Do you realize how ironic this statement is in a thread discussing a new treatment that basically cured obesity. As of today you are only fat if you want to be.
And I would argue that obesity is a bigger driver of healthcare costs than cancer and “the system” just cured it.

That sounds like a possibly realistic consequence and prime benefit of GLP-1s, this really should be celebrated
Posted on 8/21/26 at 8:31 am to CAD703X
The big beautiful bill has been far more disruptive to the healthcare industry than GLP1. That’s the main reason why all healthcare companies are reporting poor Q2 results. Less people with insurance = lower volume

So I work in a business related to the healthcare/pharma industry and may be biased, but I'm not really seeing where they're bitching about it. They're being factual about the impact of GLP-1s to their business.
And it's also not like these companies didn't know GLP-1s were coming. They've been around for a long time and clinical trials (and their results) don't happen overnight....they take years.

Alternatively, as more medical problems get solved, lesser known conditions get focus shifted to them and life changing medications get developed

Agree but The country also subsidizes their entire lives and many “politicians” benefit from it.

If folks are healthy, managed care thieves wouldn’t be earning millions/billions. We don’t have “healthcare,” really. It’s all a sham now.
If what you say is true, why do insurance companies incentivize and cover preventative treatments like annual physicals, mammograms, vaccines, dental cleanings, healthy lifestyle choices (like reimbursing for gym memberships), etc etc?
The whole point is to keep people healthy as that's cheaper for the insurance companies and us. But I know you all love to suggest every company wants everyone to have cancer

GLP1s are increasing healthcare premiums as indications expand. I work on actuarial rate setting in multiple states
