So sorry for your loss. I am a cat person and cats are warm, funny, and smart. I've had various cats as pets all my life. When they cross the rainbow bridge, it's loss that's like no other. It just hits different than the loss of a parent, sibling, etc. Not worse, just different.
My advice: get another cat soon. It will fill that hole in your heart. A pet makes a house a home.

Be comforted knowing you gave her a great life.

It is the not fun part of animal ownership, at least they don't suffer.

Sorry for your loss. My wife adores her cat. He follows her everywhere and is very much an affectionate lap cat. For whatever reason he curls up and sleeps next to me every night and now it would feel weird if he wasn't there. He's only just passed his first birthday so he may outlive me but the wife will be an emotional wreck when Louie passes on. Condolences.

I empathize and sympathize with you. It's so hard especially when you're making the decision as SUB pointed out. That drive to the vet when you know what's going to happen is brutal. The vet lets me leave without having to pay at that time, so other folks don't see someone upset. I remind myself that the joys of having them are why it's so hard to say goodbye and it's worth it to me just as it would be if I had dogs. My life just works better with kitties.
I said goodbye to two 18 year old kitties in 2 years, the last about a year ago. With the last one, I wasn't sure I'd get another kitty, but I only lasted 5 days before adopting my current kitty at 3 years old. She was scared at first having been in the same foster home for over a year which I didn't know until after I got her home. Anyway, now she's at the door inside when I get home just like the other kitties always were.

Sorry to hear that and it's always tough. We just lost one a few weeks ago.

Naw.
I'm not a cat guy at all but I ended up with a baby Main Coon in 2005 that I reluctantly had to keep.
The cat lived to be 19 years old and was one of the coolest pets we will ever have. He just went down in 2023.
Great pest control and would play fetch with the kids. Ate mice, bugs, etc.. and just kind of roamed around the house from room to room. He caught a couple of birds outside that he brought to my door step.
I'll never own another cat but they can kick arse.

I had to put down our 21 year cat in the last year. She literally went to sleep in my arms at the vets office. I
Was tough as hell but after 19 years it was time for mine as well. He died in my arms at the vet.
The guy had a great run, saw a ton of stuff.

Really, dude? A pet is a pet and you're pooping on someone that just lost a beloved pet.
I wouldn’t be taking some moral high road here. You literally said nothing in another thread about people shooting and poisoning other people’s pets because it was a breed you didn’t like.

Was the other thread not enough for you? I'd call you an attention whore but that'd be misleading- whores work for their wages... you, you are special- out here making a crude spectacle of yourself for free.

You have all my sympathy. And it is the hardest decision you will make, in my experience.
With a person, there is so much more support and input. When it is just you and the vet? Tough times.
Had dogs all my life. No time for a cat until my kids got their first one. Wouldn't be without one now. So god bless...

Yep, very difficult decision. Sorry to hear that.
Our black cat Sam made it to 22 before he was just so feeble. Still made the effort to get up every time I came in the room so I could rub his head and ears. Very tough going to the vet knowing it's the last time. A box of ashes seems like an inadequate thing for 22 years of companionship.
Oddly enough, we just lost a little 2 month old foster kitten this morning that we were watching for our daughter. Only had the kitten for two days and it's still hard.

I’ll make a spectacle of myself in defense of murdering pets when the worst thing that can happen to me is that some dumb bitch named Sally’s human is going to call me crude. At least I’m consistently against all animal cruelty.
Keep that same energy bitch and don’t advocate for murdering peoples pets in one thread and then try to come into two different threads and say your sorry for peoples losses and then try and chastise someone else’s remark about getting a different kind of animal. fricking hypocrite

It is indeed a tough decision. I’ve had to do it a few times now. The last one was the hardest. Socks had a special bond with us. Particularly my son and I. And the fact that he was attached to my son made it really tough. The best thing I could tell myself is that he was suffering, hungry, dehydrated and his lymphoma had gotten to a point that there was no getting better. Just let the poor fella go to sleep peacefully.

It never feels right, even if logically you know its the best option. I'm sorry for your loss.
Vets really have a tough job seeing that daily. I do not envy them
