quote:Same thing in Florida. They provide very strict guidelines to issue a DV plate with a wheelchair. However, I have routinely seen individuals without a wheelchair on their DV plate park in the HC spot. It is not strictly enforced (though it should be).
There are two types of DV tags in Texas, one with the wheelchair, and one without.

but you absolutely can utilize your van at any location in any parking lot. It may be more convenient to have closer access to a ramp but it is not a necessity.
If they have a side entrance ramp on their vehicle they cannot put that ramp down if someone is parked next to them so that’s why they can’t just park anywhere. That is why there is extra space next to the handicap spots that are marked that people aren’t supposed to park in so there is room to drop the ramps from the vehicle. It burns me up when people park in those areas as well because I have known people who came out of a store and can’t put their ramp down because a vehicle is illegally parked so they have to wait until that person comes back to leave or if it’s a smaller store they will go in and ask who drives that vehicle because it’s illegally parked. I also have known people to call the police to try to have them towed. I know it doesn’t seem like a big deal to some people but if you live it day in and day out especially with a child then you will understand how frustrating it is that people abuse it and you aren’t able to access the accommodations you or your loved one needs.

I had a co-worker who broke his leg,and got one, but once it healed he kept parking there even though he could get around fine. One day it was raining real hard when I came back from lunch’s and he wasn’t back yet, so I parked there to piss him off. Boy was he hot! Good times.
