"They brim with white heterosexuals who exclusively, emphatically, and endlessly bellow “Merry Christmas” to every lumberjack and labradoodle they pass. They’re centered on beauty-pageant heroines and strong-jawed heroes with white-nationalist haircuts," the Slate writer declared. There were complaints about the lack of gay people and feminists and Muslims in Hallmark Channel's movies. Slate also whined about what it called the network's "42 hours of sugary, sexist, preposterously plotted, plot hole–festooned, belligerently traditional, ecstatically Caucasian cheer."

JFC, change the damn channel or go start your own network that shows movies of a gay muslim furry fighting to get home for the holidays and meeting an obese trans black non binary gender queer on the plane and falling in love.

Yeah I'm assuming this is satire

It's Slate, so it's most likely serious. Every writer was a kid who was picked on in Elementary school and has held grudges vs normal people for 20 years.

If only somebody would invent a TV that had more than one channel. That way, if you don't like what is on one channel, you could have your child go turn the knob and change it to a different one.

Dreaming big.

I think they are right in that there should be more diversity. But they do not need to change the formula of putting supporting actors from those shows you used to like in leading roles of preposterously plotted, plot hole–festooned, belligerently traditional holiday cheer.

Carl Winslow would make a great Santa "father figure performing Christmas miracles" that is in half of these movies. Hillary Banks could play one of these single mom's that finds her prince charming when she just lost her job is about to get evicted at Christmas. Eva Longoria has her own production company, let her make and star in the hispanic flavored versions of these.

Here is the point missed by the Slate...if people weren't watching, they would stop showing them. We are a market driven society. If shite doesn't sell, it isn't out there for long.

That's why the Hallmark Channel doesn't show Muhammad and Abdul's Gay Ramadan Movie. Viewership would pretty much be limited to the 0.00000001% of the country that "identifies" as homosexual practicing Muslims. What advertiser is going to sign up for that?

If Muhammad and Abdul want to change the programming, they can:
1) Buy the Hallmark Channel;
2) Alter the demographics of the country to increase the number of gay practicing Muslims;
3) Spend so much money on the advertiser's products that they can't be avoided.

That's why there isn't lesbian midget softcore on FX.

They couldn't do a full feature movie on this but it would make a good short story.

I refuse to believe this article is serious. That said, I found myself watching one of these the other night. Turned it on because it had Maggie Lawson(the chick from Psych) on it and wound up watching the whole thing. And I’ll be damned if it didn’t make me feel good.

Nearly every "movement" of the "minorities and oppressed" over the last 30 years has started out with comedy, like this article. The Left takes the absurd, the satirical, and try to see just how far they can push the idea. Even 20 years ago, Bill and Hill were quoted to be against gay "marriage." Where are we now in 2017?

It all seems to start with a joke, a sub-plot in a movie, conservatives even laugh at the comedy, then say "it'll never happen...."

The Left, in effect, says "hold my beer" and they make up their little bumper sticker slogans and chant them to death and many in "the middle" say....well, what's so bad about that? Everyone deserves.... or has the right....who are we to tell....

What is a "white nationalist haircut"? I would assume buzz cut or bowl cut.

He's probably upset that Lacey Chabert and Candace Cameron Bure are already taken.

Note to Hallmark Channel: Do not put them on the same flight. If it crashes, you have nobody left to star in your Christmas films.
