These are the times where people with shitty credit scores, no credit cards, and living day to day start laughing.

I mean what are we supposed to do anyway? A leak like this comes out every few months it feels like.

I'll file it in the cabinet with the long list of shite I'll worry about later

The people with bad credit will be laughing at all of us when the hackers can't get approved for anything with theirs

Why did they go through the trouble of hacking? They could have just bought it from any number of the other assholes who have already done the hard work.

ETA: This is why I laugh at all the frickers worrying about Temu stealing your shite. Even the Federal Government and your own damn bank has shite security that will eventually give up everything they have about you.

It costs nothing to freeze your accounts at Equifax, Experian, and Trans Union.

I think that would resolve the issue.

Dude, Brian Johnson of AC/DC lives in Sarasota. His SSN is free game. Do the hackers think they just discovered something amazing?

Wait - I remember that thread.

Oh and dont forget to also include your DOB as well. That should make the search much easier.

I figure on the black market/ dark web or where ever.. it's like trading cards back in the day

" 'll trade you a Ken Griffey Jr for x..y .z.? ..wanna make deal? ". Nahh I already have 3 Griffey"

Except it's..".I trade you every one under 4s SSN for any naturalized citizen in the last 6!months ". "Nahh..I already have everyone over 3"

Nope. Stolen SSNs are used to commit Medicare/Medicaid fraud, used to check in at ERs, etc.

And then they can use your SSN to apply for jobs, which is how SS has reported that I "earned" tens of thousands more than I actually did every few years I check the statement (started in 2001.) The IRS wouldn't tell me who else was using my SSN to protect their privacy. Lolz. And no, that's not a good thing, as it can make the earnings I report to the IRS a mismatch with what SS can claim I earned.

Let's talk about security questions. Use fake answers, and store them in a password vault like Bitwarden. For instance, my mother's maiden name may be "Altoids Decongestant" on one site, the street I grew up on may be "acuvue envelopes," etc.

Go back a few decades and the Commonwealth of Virginia used our Social Security Numbers for our Drivers License numbers.

When they stopped, the assigned DL numbers were much longer and no longer fit on any of the state forms (including driving infractions)
