Guys with wives that were SAHMs - Did they go back to work after the kids went to school?

I don't see why anyone would need to continue as a housewife once the kids were no longer young. If that's an agree-upon arrangement that both people want, then whatever. But I've heard quite a few people say they couldn't survive without a person staying home.

But if they go back to work, they can't troll Facebook for BBC all day anymore.

No. I have a daughter entering the pre-teen years. I like that my wife is around for her.

A lot of women are lazy, and as young girls they aspire to grow up and stay at home (with or without kids) and be supported financially. That mindset is slowly changing but it's still there.

ETA: I think it's better to have one parent stay home while the kids are really young. But after that you're just a bum

Kids get out of school around 3. Who will be home to take care of them?

It certainly makes life easier when kids are involved.

Mine did. After my youngest got to 1st grade or so she finished college and went to nursing school. Been an RN every since. The extra $ is nice but I'd rather her be a SAHM so I don't have to help do anything.

Because their income would be almost negligible.

My wife will be a SAHM for our kids one day and then go work in a boutique or something during school hours once they are of that age.

Just to make enough to cover groceries and the electric bill

I used to say no way I will support a woman that stays home. Then I had a son, and realize I was an idiot

It is a huge help to me

However, I get the best of both world. My wife is a nurse so she picks up a few shifts every now and then at double her rate due to dropping benefits

From my experience the wive's that are SAHM's after the kids go to school are the lazy one's trying to sell Scentsy, Avon, or whatever POS product there is available for uneducated people.

Yes. When they were both old enough to go to school. She couldn't wait, actually.

Having this mindset without having a traditional understanding of a wifely role is pretty bummy, but otherwise I don't look down on it.

Once kids go to school, they need to be picked up from school - usually well before quitting time of most full-time jobs. And they have homework, sports, etc.

And things need to get done around the house.

I know the Peg Bundy stereotype exists, but I think it is the exception and not the rule. The SAHM that I live with works just about as much as I do.

My wife is a HS teacher (no pics, no "she's banging the students")

Her work day is 7 am to 3 pm. Kids school day is 830 am - 330 pm.

I get the kids up, dropped off at school at 805 am (earliest I can drop them off). She picks them up after school.

When they get older, they will probably just take the bus.
