Probably pick up something like that along with some consulting work related to my old job. Still keep in touch with many people from that field.
I wonder what profession.

Consulting at last 18 years being out of the field doesn't seem to make sense, considering how much the business landscape changes in a couple of decades.

yep - he goes to a college prep school and does 4-6 hours of homework per night.

Great childhood he has there.

Sounds awful to make a kid go through that.

I'd rather her be a SAHM so I don't have to help do anything.

I've been staying home for the last 12 weeks. Working is way less demanding than staying at home with a kid.

My experience.

SAHM with my two and my stepdaughter. Youngest starts kindergarten and I go to work. My husband has a very stressful job and everyone is miserable. Clearing a measly $200 a month after gas, before and after school care, etc. (this was in 1991)6 months later my husband gets a promotion and tells me to quit if I want to. So I did. Everybody happy again.

I worked for part time for a couple years when the kids were in middle school. I got home before they did. I also volunteered at their primary and middle schools.

When our youngest was a senior in college (and moved out right after high school) my husband asked if I was done being a SAHM. I found a great job 10 minutes from home and worked there for 6 years until we decided to leave BR.

My husband's entire work career was very stressful. It worked best for our family for me to be home dealing with kids, house, yard, and for a few years, four vehicles that needed maintaining.

All 3 kids turned out great and loved having me at home.

It was hard in the early years because we were poor. But that didn't last long and we have no regrets.

On the other hand my middle sister was a SAHM for a few years. She read the Enquirer, watched Maury Povich and never set foot in her sons' school. Her youngest dropped out of high school.

So whatever works for your family is what you should do!

Don't have kids yet but trying to decide how we want to handle this when the day comes. My wife currently works 7-3 and brings in a solid income. Thinking she returns to work after maternity leave and we make it work (nanny/daycare/grandma) till school age. After that she's home by 3 to be there after school with kids.

Work 7-3 or 6-2 then.

Hey if you want to be a SAHM, that's all you. Whatever works best for your family.

Just know that just because you are annoying the ever living frick out of others on FB trying to hype/sell Rodan and Fields, Lipsense, Lularoe, whatever ....it doesn't make you a "business woman".

SAHW make no sense to me. You need another income and just in case you get divorced you don't want to be totally on the hook for her

There are jobs that would allow a mother to be home by 3:00.

I've done both and I completely disagree.

SAHW? As in stay-at-home-WIFE? Sounds like the freakin jackpot. It's the SAHM I wouldn't want to do. Several people have mentioned "shuttling around the kid to his/her social and after school activities". That sounds like hell. But stay at home wife? Sign me up.

It's a jackpot for the woman alright as she gets to live off her husband but for the man there is no upside even for a SAHM. A second income is essential and you don't want a woman dependent on you in case of a divorce

Saying a SAHM has no advantage for the man is asinine

Fair enough. Taking care of a newborn is harder work than managing a class of 30 kids from NOLA (I'm a teacher). At least I get breaks at work.

Your newborn doesn't take naps? Hell, my 4 year old still naps for 1-3 hours everyday.

During a divorce and custody hearings it will prove to be a problem . Since she didn't work you will be forced to take care of her and since she was around the kids all the time she's gonna get primary custody
