I shite you not, my niece had a Spanish accent until she was around 4-5 because of this. Actually pretty sad.

once you have kids, you will know how wrong you are here

my wife doesn't stay home because she has a job that is ridiculously flexible in when she can leave or take off

if she had a more structured/traditional job, she would stay home and she might stay home for the first couple of years if/when we have our next child

it just makes life so much easier

I work from home and my job is extremely flexible, but it's possible to raise your kids without having a stay at home parent. My mom worked when I was a child.

No and now she talks about her stupid shite like it's learning some skill. "Oh I've been researching this way of doing (insert simple shite)."

I didn't say it wasn't possible.

I just said it makes life much easier, especially for people without flexible schedules.

My wife stopped work (Physical Therapist) when our daughter was 1. She went back after our son turned 1. She was out a total of 3 years.

That 2nd kid really pushed her to want to get back to work.

We pay a nanny now...but my wife is happier and our house is much cleaner. So it's all good.

The amount of scholarship $$ out there is just amazing. But, you have to spend time to search for it.
For example, the last college scholarship my wife found was for members of the Children of The Revolution (offshoot of DAR). So my wife remembered that her great grandmother was in the DAR so she did all the paperwork to get admitted and then went to some meetings and then applied for the scholarship. Maybe 20 hours of work over the course of 6 months for $3000.
My wife has spent time volunteering for the First Tee organization and this summer my son got a free leadership/golf camp at Pebble Beach (yes I am jealous).
If you have a high school kid there is a ton of opportunities our there you just have to spend time to get them

Wait. You have a HIGH SCHOOL aged son who presumably is already old enough to drive and work (or is very close to that age), and your WIFE applies and works for scholarships for him? What the frick?

Reminds me of that Chris Rock bit from the 90's. Yeah, a single mother can raise a child without a man, doesn't mean she should do it. Just like you can drive with your feet, doesn't make it a fricking good idea.

I think, if the opportunity affords itself, having a SAHM is great for the mom and the kids for a certain amount of time. It does make things easier when it comes to school functions, sports, homework, etc. It works for us....for now. But, I can also tell that it's beginning to wear on my wife and she's ready for something else. Our youngest will be in school in 2 years, so it'll be interesting to see how things pan out.

My wife was a SAHM, but this was due to our military PCS. When she found work, she enrolled the kids in daycare.

I understand you're thought process but my husband and I both agree that I'm still very invested staying at home. I'm on my son's school and our ISD Exectuive PTA Board, Chair the neighborhood social committee (playing kid and family events every month), carpool to all practices and social activities, supervise homework and play time at our home, run errands for my husband, etc.

I gave up a very well paying exectuive career when my son came home with us. I thought I would go back once he started 3rd or 4th grade. With the hours my husband works and the networking commitments his job requires, here's no way I could go back to working 60+ hours a week in my old career.

I don't want my kid home alone after school or playing with kids I don't know. I like his straight A report cards and all the activities he participates in. For us, it's totally worth me being home.

And I'm certainly not leaving him home alone in middle or high school when he can really get into trouble.

Mine stayed at home till both kids started school. Then she went back to school. Once finished, she took on part time work till the kids were around 13. Then she went full time.

I worked shift hours and it was nice to have a big breakfast cooked after a dog once I got home. She always had dinner cooked every day. I never took a sandwich to work in over 30 years. Always had a hot meal to eat at lunch or late night dinner.

Now, she works PRN, about two to four days a month, stays home and watches our grandson 4 days a week after school and watches me 100% of the time.

Sure would of been nice to have that extra money when the kids were very young, but overall, we planed for her to be a SAHM.
