I think you're wrong. There is not 8 hours worth of work to be done every day in your house, while your kids are at school.

Unless you have a garden and some livestock. Think about the free labor!

If you don't see the advantage of having a parent who is there for your kid after they get off of school as compared to some babysitter/daycare type of thing then you are not seeing the big picture. Luckily my wife does not have to work (subtle OT brag), but having a SAHM has been invaluable for my son. From being a volunteer in his classroom to shuttling him to after school activities - you can't put a price tag on that.
For the next 3 years until he finishes high school she is going to spend at least 3 hours a day on internship/scholarship type activities and likely make more $ that way than she could by working as a teacher.
My son is going to two internships this summer due to the time he and my wife have spent volunteering with different organizations.

Same route mine took.
Does she think you should split housework now?

Think about the money you have to spend on your wife. It would be so much cheaper hiring illegal immigrants to do that work in your garden/with your livestock

What do you mean spending time on internship/scholarship activities and how do you make money doing that?

First off, beta AF. 2nd, your "kid" is a fresh/soph in high school and still would need a babysitter/daycare if it wasn't for your wife? Your son seems even more beta than you

Having this mindset without having a traditional understanding of a wifely role is pretty bummy, but otherwise I don't look down on it.

True. But very few women think they should carry out the traditional roles... but they want the traditional support.

The amount of scholarship $$ out there is just amazing. But, you have to spend time to search for it.
For example, the last college scholarship my wife found was for members of the Children of The Revolution (offshoot of DAR). So my wife remembered that her great grandmother was in the DAR so she did all the paperwork to get admitted and then went to some meetings and then applied for the scholarship. Maybe 20 hours of work over the course of 6 months for $3000.
My wife has spent time volunteering for the First Tee organization and this summer my son got a free leadership/golf camp at Pebble Beach (yes I am jealous).
If you have a high school kid there is a ton of opportunities our there you just have to spend time to get them

SAHMs should be shamed back into the workforce. Get a job and hire a Latino person to raise your kids.

When our kids get old enough, I'm putting her arse back to work. I literally can't think of any reason someone would want to sit at the fricking house all day and do nothing once the kids are gone. It would take all of two weeks of that shite before I went insane.

That's your kid's job, not your wife's.

She didn't just ask you to take out a life insurance policy for a few mil?

ETA: I think it's better to have one parent stay home while the kids are really young. But after that you're just a bum

I love the generalization. My oldest daughter had a lot of issues in high school (and still does frankly). If one of us hadn't been at home, there's no way she would have made it through high school. My wife owns a successful business that allowed us both the flexibility to manage our household. I spent most of my time at home until she graduated high school. Just started back to work this year.

anything more than a simple job 5 hours a day or so is degenerate.

if your wife doesnt want to work and you "make her" you are a degenerate.

My wife went to school for 8 years and has two degrees. She didn't do all of that to be a stay at home mom. She'll possibly work part-time when we have young kids, but there's no reason that a grown adult should stay home all day.
