This board is showing its IQ with these coronavirus takes. If the government says we need to shelter in place until new year's, even if it just saves one elderly life, it is completely worth it.
Wrong

I know (hope) you are using hyperbole.
If, in accordance with your statement, we try to maintain our current state until 2021..
- 60-75% unemployment or more
- Tens of millions of foreclosures
- DJIA in the hundreds
- Deaths from starvation in the millions
- FIAT currency worthless, Zimbabwe inflation
- All the consequences of all of these things happening
No life is worth that much, mine included. You're assertion is diarrhea rhetoric.

Louisiana will be devastated because most people here are unhealthy.

End of May is wishful thinking. I’m guessing this is it until Labor Day. It’s a giant virtue signaling competition at this point
The family leave act protects people’s jobs for family medical emergencies. How about we extend that protection to a nationwide emergency due to infectious disease and allow those who want/need to go back to work the option to do so while allowing those at risk or fearful to also make the choice to stay home? It’s self regulating once the scales dip one way or the other but at least give US the choice.

That scale tips both ways. A lot of folks who won’t get sick will have their lives ruined forever “out of an abundance of caution”

I can still go into an “essential “ store and buy cigarettes that account for >1 million deaths. This is somewhat insane and hypocritical for the United States. We can choose an abortion in some stated but not to go to work?

frick that people are already done following it open back up

People should have listened the first time, now you get to feel the pain

deaths shouldn't be the issue. People die. The issue is flattening the curve and the overwhelming of hospital
By that logic, we should quarantine every flu season

Maybe we don't know when the point is, but I'm pretty sure it's not when death/hospitalization/vent numbers are increasing like are.
When we start the downward turn on the curve, we will know it's time.
Any data we have is several weeks behind what has happened with regards to infection.
I'll agree that the death count and hospitalization counts are more relevant for sure than total number of cases.
However, if we don't have a handle on number of exposed versus number of recovered or unaffected we are only tracking one side of the equation. Just because hospitalizations and deaths peak and go down doesn't mean the virus is gone.

Hospitals get overwhelmed and people die due to lack of resources every flu season? Crazy.

Do you even line item veto bro? The Governor in Louisiana has almost unparalleled power to bully the Legislators to his will. And Bel is a master at it.
