Hey OP, if I can fit this entire ice chest of frozen meat into your freezer will you sign up for a monthly meat program?

That’s too bad. I’ve got a zero turn with a bad deck but a good motor. I would have given him but the motor doesn’t match,

Yeah first thing your friend should have checked was the carb and then when it looked great and still did not start deal off. Unless the guy wants to make an even better deal or agree that if it cannot get fixed for “said amount” he will give you your money back.

So I send someone out that knows way more about lawn mowers than me to pick it up if all is well. Everything the guy says about what he had done to it checks out. So I purchased the lawn mower.

Is this real life?

This thread is about to rival the guy who complained about neighbors who installed a spying device. Then the OT quickly discovered it was an anti-bark machine because the OP’s dog was a Dick.

It's called driveway warranty. Once it's out the driveway, there's no warranty. This one is on you.

I get it. But you would think a decent human being would realize that I got screwed over in this and agree to return the money for the machine. It's not like this guy was just found on a craigslist add. I don't personally know the guy, but he was an acquaintance of someone I knew. Felt there would be a level of trust there, but that's where I messed up I guess.

You don't even have to take the carb off. A couple shots of starting fluid into the intake while cranking should have at least made it sputter.

One should be suspicious when buying something that isn’t running but supposedly only needs some cheap part or service to get it running. If that was true, why wouldn’t the seller get it running and then sell the functioning mower for a lot more?

THIS!

What would you think if you went to buy a car and it wouldn't start but "it just needed a set of spark plugs"?

I'd request an Admin to delete this post because this is 100% your fault and you look like a dumbass for paying $800 for something that was clearly broken.

If you had any sense, the price would be finalized after a small engine mechanic had thoroughly checked it out and confirmed it was indeed the carburetor.

OP made a mistake.

However, if I was the seller, I'd give the dude his money back.

You bought a zero turn lawnmower for $800 and thought it wouldn’t be a piece of shite?

I don’t think that at all. You took a risk. It didn’t pay off. Life lesson learned. Next time don’t buy something that can’t start, no matter who goes and looks at it.

No. No you didn't. This is a life lesson in PERSONAL ACCOUNTABILITY that we all need to learn. YOU chose to purchase a mower that you knew wasn't running that is also out of warranty. YOU chose to trust and believe someone that you didn't know. YOU chose to not obtain the mower yourself and YOU sent someone else that didn't have the knowledge base to understand what they were purchasing. That is the game you signed up to play without going purchase from a vendor or local big box store direct. YOU understood that the game was you may get a bargain on an expensive zero turn for only $800 that was inoperable with the potential to be operable but you possible outcome was that it would never work again. If the mower was in perfect working condition then it wouldn't have been available at that discounted price.

You made the decisions and had the power to back out at every step of the way. This is no one's fault but YOURS.

Won’t start because he thought it was the dirty carburetor?

Maybe your ‘friend’ should have checked on that too, before the OK was given.

You played yourself AND that guy is a cocksucker. Two things can be true at once.
