I’m in the same field. I got laid off four years into my first role in 2010. It feels like a gut punch, and I had several months notice, so I can only imagine how much it sucks coming out of the blue.

Keep your head up. Even in that garbage market I was able to land on my feet with only a few years experience. It absolutely sucks right now (I’ve been looking casually) but it won’t forever. You’ll land something.

Defense contractors hiring big time right now and paying well. Not sure what’s near you.

Unless you are financially ready to retire, which doesn't seem to be the case, you need to pivot to something new today. Do it now. You don't have a moment to waste. A job that may seem like an insult now may feel lik a miracle in 2 to 3 years. We are on the precipe of an employment apocalypse.

Sorry to be all gloom and doom but the future is grim and people need to be told.

You sound VERY marketable. What business was your company losing market share to? Find their competition and apply. Your knowledge of the field is more valuable than some dipshit fresh out of college.

Identify your biggest mistakes and the biggest mistakes your former employer made that you cautioned against with data analysis to support your position. That comes up in the interview.

Also identify what your former employer’s most significant blind spot currently is. Tease it in the interview that it is something you want to be cautious about in the event your former employer hires you back.

Also identify another type of business you were drawn to when employed. Are there any employees in other businesses that you often collaborated with? Contact those people and let them know you’re looking for a change of scenery and new challenges.

You WILL generate some interest. It’s a matter of how you price what you can give, and whether a lower entry price might provide a better career opportunity.
