I got laid off/let go at the tail end of COVID. Best thing that ever happened to me. Never thought I’d ever enjoy being “unemployed”, but it was the best four months of my life. Found a better paying job with a shorter commute and had enough saved to endure the lack of income. Don’t want to have to go through it again, but it turned out for the best. Try to enjoy yourself.

New management came in and cut me loose, disbursing the great team I created to several other managers. Team hated it.
I had another job within a week. But, the market was different back then?
Oh and I got enough severance to pay off my house.

Sorry to hear bro. I've been laid off 6 times in the past but each time, the next job was way better. Keep your head up, take some time off just to be pissed, bummed, whatever and then get back to it.

Read, what color is your parachute. Don’t delay your search days turn into months months turn into years start today aggressively. Look at your skill set. Is there anyway you can improve it and make yourself more marketable?

Were you looking to potentially make changes to your life? Were you unhappy in your career? Sometimes, I feel, an unexpected life event can be the best thing that can happen to you in the long-term.
Short-term, of course it's going to suck. Long-term, this could be the kick in the butt that you need to make the changes necessary to find more happiness in your life.

Good luck and keep your head up! While it is devastating it usually comes out in the end as a bonus. Spend as much time and effort into finding your next gig as you did in your last one and you will most likely wind up in a better position.

Take a few days. Don’t drink. Go to the gym everyday. Play more golf. Ride a bike. Get into better shape. Get a tan. Buy some new shirts.
Then get your things together and start the job search. Possible contract work, disaster recovery firms, or project work.
Good luck! Went through it 10 years ago but also had the flood hit too and I was in desperate need of a hip replacement with no insurance or Medicaid. Has not been an easy ride but I’m enjoying life these days.
