re: Ruston girl contracted brain amoeba likely from swimming in Lake Claiborne

I was told today by brother n law who lives near there she took a turn for the worse and family is having to have some tough conversations today. It’s not looking good, incredibly sad situation. Major brain swelling yesterday
She's likely in an induced coma. Poor little girl. The only thing that would keep me going as a parent would be other children to care for.
God this is heartbreaking.

They can beat us this year? Yes
They can absolutely beat us this year? Nah
Texas is going to be really good this year, and that's not just the Flavor-aid talking.
I think it's going to be one of the best games in the long history of the rivalry. I do believe Texas will have one of its best teams. Venables will have his best team thus far. Should be epic.

Hate to hear this for that young man. I prefer to play a team with their best players on the field.

My niece went there for a soccer camp and said the campus was beautiful. I hate them but it's hard to not respect them in some way.
My niece went there for undergrad and then to Auburn for pharmacy school. Being at Auburn made her wish she'd gone there for undergrad.

What are these good arguements? All I have ever heard tends to fall towards the old "if you made it rich, you did it off the backs of others and stopped them from making it rich". This is beyond false, so what are the good arguements?
The argument is that it destabilizes society. One of the big issues we've been facing is the decline of our manufacturing base. This provided solid, middle class jobs in the 40's-60's. It's particularly acute in areas like Memphis which lost International Harvester and Firestone plants. Today in Memphis, you're basically affluent or poor. There's not much in-between, and you can easily see the results.

No it wasn't. Just like roadway construction is not a mix. Government spending on infrastructure is not and never will be socialist. The argument is common, but false. Just like the whole "military is socialism".
Well, you're incorrect. The government provided loans and financing which made it possible. That's "the people" providing financing. Where the people made the means of production possible. I studied this topic extensively as an undergraduate History major.
quote:
That is not close to socialism either. The Catholic church is closer to a private business
The point is not that the Catholic Church is socialist. The point is that the Catholic Church brought universal healthcare to America, which is precisely the same as what is offered in European countries which are commonly referred to as socialist. Universal healthcare is unjustly demonized as socialist.
India is a nasty country.

Even Democrats are worried that there party is becoming too socialist.
No Democrat will respond to this post except to downvote, but it's a problem they're trying to address.
Socialism is indeed a cancer that is growing, only the ignorant or uniformed don't recognize this.
Well, I'm an independent voter, but I will respond. Of course the mainstream Democrats are concerned, because they've spent years beating back the more progressive voices in their party. Most of the Democrats in power, especially the older ones, are liberal in name only. They love money and power just like Republicans. Both are worthless as tits on a boar hog.
The newer progressive wing makes good points about certain economic issues, like wealth disparity, but they get way off base on ridiculous social issues. I do not like their virulent attacks on Christians. It's a fascist tendency, but of course the far right has its own fascist tendencies.
But the truth is economies function best and people fare better overall when there's a rational mix of capitalism and socialism in an economy. Even in the U.S., where the construction of our railroads were essentially a capitalist-socialist enterprise. Catholic nuns brought hospitals and universal healthcare to this country. Employee owned companies are a great way for workers to build equity, and equity is where long term wealth and stability are established.
The Democrats are not as smart as they think they are. In fact, they've been totally out flanked by the GOP, especially in the judiciary. And the country is sick and tired of hearing about trans rights and how the Dems pander to a very small voting block. It's a stupid strategy.

Generation Z has real problems. I'd hate to fight a world war knowing we had to depend upon them.

Ask those two who was the best QB they ever faced. That Miami team was loaded on defense in 94 and Nebraska beat them on their own field in the Orange Bowl. Nebraska of the mid-90s was not the same as their 80s/early 90s teams. Once Osborne started recruiting speed it was all over. Heck, Frazier was from Florida.
I will always have a ton of respect for that team. Their schemes were incredible. Tough football players, too. Miami had something like 13 first round picks and 38 overall, but Nebraska just felt like a better team.

He's dumb.
He's hitting the T pretty hard. I'll guess his level is 800 or higher.
With Nagy and Venables, I believe OU is better positioned than anyone to make multiple title runs like Alabama did with Saban. We are running a pro-level program. The talent will continue to pour in.
Second coming of Samaje Perine.

Not being "made for the spotlight" isn't why he failed at USC. He just wasn't ready overall. If he was in that job today, he'd fare much better.
