National title or bust is a ridiculous standard.

Since 2022, Sark has gone 8-5, 12-2, 13-3, and 10-3, won the Big 12, made the CFP in 2023 and 2024, and in 2024 won two playoff games before losing in the semifinal...He’s also 3-2 vs OU, including 49-0 in 2022, 34-3 in 2024, and 23-6 in 2025..

I think this could be the year he does win a title. Definitely had our number of late, but Texas-OU can be cyclical. One team dominates for a few years and then the thing flips.

Things are set up nicely for Texas this season. A&M and LSU are big games. Ohio State is early so that outcome may not hurt them.
Gonna be a big series. I'm guessing our ladies want to show they're still the big dog and last year was an anomaly.
Well, obviously at some point you want a trophy. But being a top ten program helps recruiting, so you want to talk about it. It means you're one of the top programs in the country.

It's also a factor in the Learfield Directors Cup. That's become a focus of a lot schools. Prestige and recruiting.

Since last fall, LSU, Florida, OU and Texas all had at least 10 programs ranked in the top 25 with Florida having more teams than anyone. 14, I think.
The men's team is top ten as well. We've beaten Auburn, Tennessee, Alabama, Texas, Georgia, State and Florida, although Texas is #1.

Tied 2-2 on a Mancini HR for Vandy.

They've cut it to 2-1.

And Jordan Shipley. Pretty good tandem.
You're definitely right about the TE's, and yes, the running game seems to have more energy and explosiveness.

I think Bentley knew he'd be behind Mateer at least for a while. Probably the whole season. He's not, to your point, expecting to be behind anyone else. That would put him at risk.

A lot has been made of Royal's mistake in aiding OU with the Wishbone, but those were different times. Personal loyalties and friendships meant everything in those days, and I'm sure Coach Royal felt he was just doing a favor.

In hindsight, it was a mistake, of course, but I have respect for Royal. Now there seems to be no loyalty at all. It's just a money game.

Also, a lot of people like to place the Iron Bowl and the Ohio State-Michigan game ahead of the Red River game. I think that's a mistake. RRR has so many unique aspects from the seating arrangement to the backdrop of the Texas State Fair that set it apart for me. All of the stories and characters. It's a much more colorful story than either of the other games, as OU Guy's post clearly demonstrates.

I'm a historian by training, and I can tell you that the RRR would sell more books than any other rivalry outside of the Yankees and Redsox.

That pic reminds me of those suicide seats in the back of wagons where you'd face the rear of the vehicle. Kids loved them, but what were we thinking?

Thanks for the posts.
Mateer's decision making bothers me as much if not more than his arm angles. That's a part of his game he needs to develop, and I think he will.
I know a lot of people are raving about Bentley, but I think it's a mistake to place him ahead of Newbauer at this point. Newbauer is a big dude with a cannon for an arm. Bentley may be closer to Mateer in terms of the style of his game, but I'm hearing Newbauer is the fastest of the three. He can be a problem in the open field.
If they wanted a nicer hotel they could stay at The Peabody.
Get out and watch your teams. Your support of softball and baseball means a lot more than supporting Alabama football. It's affordable family entertainment, and the support means a lot to those athletes.

Sad and terrifying.
Might as well nominate Eddie Gaedel.
It's obviously Mateer, but I wouldn't be surprised if we saw Newbauer get some PT. Guy is huge and fast, has a cannon and can place the ball well.
Yeah, I'm not concerned about the polls. Being 5th or 1st. It's just a curious thing I've noticed.

Agree with OU Guy that we'll learn more this weekend. Big series.
It seems pollsters want to put anyone at #1 but us. Probably fatigued over always seeing OU in the top spot despite us not winning the championship last year.
We may see Alabama in the tournament. Things will be settled then.

That entire program is trash from top to bottom.

Well, the Tigers are a pretty sad bunch, too.

Sounds like we're going to need a bigger mountain.
