The new Children’s Hospital will be marvelous! The interior, which is really what counts, will be vibrant, colorful, and Louisiana-themed, with a different region highlighted on each floor, as well as a different Louisiana based animal mascot for each floor. It will be wonderful, especially for those little people it is for.
Who cares if someone driving by likes it. It’s not for them.

That new kids KnockKnock museum looks kind of goofy and fun.

The designs are fine.

The downtown library, tho...

1. Colossal waste of taxpayer dollars
2. The cantilever design is over the top and unnecessary
3. Baton Rouge does NOT need another library

What the hell is wrong with this in your mind? It's a pretty cool looking building to me.

The knock knock museum is great! Now Baton Rouge is building new hospitals, one being a childrens hospital, and a few buildings!

WOW! I'm impressed.

Naw, that's a big part of the design.

Well dedicated EBRPL taxes keep getting passed and renewed. They're supposed to just save it all for a rainy day?

I guess you missed where I said I liked it. It just doesn't fit the area or really BR.

OLOL has a children’s hospital within the main campus now. This new campus has been in the works for a long time and will be very nice with a lot of room to grow. Children’s Hospitals are magnets for money. It’s easy to raise it. Baton Rouge has some very good health care contrary to what some believe.

I don't get what that means. It's a unique looking building. I'm not sure where it would "fit" such that you like it there instead of BR.

Crushed stone like that is not a south LA thing is what I mean by not fitting in. That is more of a southwest look and feel to it.

Is this the library? Looks decent to me.

On its own, it looks decent. Compared to everything else around it, it just doesn't fit in.

Designing buildings to "fit" downtown is how you get an ugly downtown that we currently have. You want it to have some unique, eye catching structures.

An unnecessary, wonky part of the design resulting in major structural issues before it has even been finished. Cantilevers look neat but are just unnecessary stress/strain on the structural members.

one of a matching pair of buildings at ingleside methodist church in capital heights burned. Instead of replacing the building to match existing, or something that would fit the neighborhood, they built the ugliest atrocity they could imagine. the most traveled street is capital heights, so they had the biggest airconditioner condenser unit they could find on that side, along with the back door. but they put the crucifix around the corner from that where you only see it in your mirror after you have passed.

i cannot imagine what they were thinking.

Baton Rouge doesn’t have a monopoly on disposable architecture, which is pretty much what strip malls are. All cities large and small have their fair share of them. Pre-engineered metal buildings with light gauge metal stud and EIFS facades built for a 25 year lifespan. The dirt underneath them is more valuable.

And a lot of complaining about other architecture, I think people really don’t understand the economics of building. It’s easy to complain when it’s not your money.

They have been done countless times with no issues. The cantilever in this case helps transition the building to the exterior as well as creating a dramatic entrance.
