It's not only a terrible looking building in and of itself, but it's just a god awful use of space all around it as well.

You have this wonderful densely packed old colonial city and they obviously just razed a huge portion of it and plopped this gargantuan monstrosity in the middle of a bunch of pointless slab open space, which is all but completely useless.

Probably the most famous examples of brutalist architecture. It makes the Baton Rouge city hall look nice.

General Informatics. Its a tech company. I like their building.

Foreigner built that company and building with grants from TAX DOLLARS. Then he proceeds to somehow claim racism because he didn't win the state contract and 6 months later he is awarded it. This is after the 3 companies that won it fair and square did everything right except line someone's pockets.
Yes I'm mad.

What do you think those 4 hydraulic lifts holding up the downtown library rent for a day? I suppose taxpayers are on the hook for that.

Dallas City hall says "sup?"

ETA:

Florida Capitol Building says "no I don't look like what you think I look like, fig."

I'm not calling anyone racist names. But wasn't he involved in the computers/database system for Cops Contract?

While I love the classic architecture of most of LSU's buildings, there are several ugly brutalist buildings that are really terrible and out of place.

Life Sciences:

Chemistry/Choppin: (At least this one isn't visible from Highland anymore)

Middleton:

Lockett:

Tureaud:

Vet School:

Kirby Smith:

Dairy Science:

There are some others too. Luckily most of these are planned to be demolished/replaced in the new master plan. Hopefully that happens.

I still think Boston is the leader in the clubhouse.

Ole Miss' Stupid Union building was pretty bad, built around '75. They have just now renovated it to look much more in concert with the rest of the campus.

Not sure why or how BR has a phobia of going vertical.

A lot of it has to do with cost. Once you go over a few stories, you must drive piles into bedrock, which significantly increases risk and cost.

Like I said, I do like it. Especially now with the vines growing on it. It's just out of place where it is.

I've seen department heads/reps in some meetings for campus projects.

Good observations HammerheadLincoln which is a little sad, because LSU has a truly beautiful campus within it's grasp.
