I rarely get blackout drunk or sick. While I totally see your point, I’m not sure that’s the solution but I guess it’s worth a try

I still drink a beer or two a day. Never get shite faced haven't done that in 10 years. I just get bloated drinking more than three. Never been a liquor guy. To each his or her own. I have an uncle that was an absolute alcoholic but he had to give it up to save his life and family. He would get shite faced and would go off the deep in.

Yes, cold turkey on 12/31/1998. Haven’t had a drop since. Best decision ever. You gotta do you.

Gave it up for about a month. Sleeping increased a little, resting heart rate slowed and blood pressure dropped some. Didn’t lose as much weight as I thought I would though.
The biggest win out of it was the realization that I’m not addicted. I could see the remaining bourbon in the cabinet and not reach for it, even on days off of work.
Now, I only drink when certain occasions come up, not the three days a week I was before the start of the year.

Somebody please post "Alabama Rehab".
It will certainly straighten you out and make you feel damn lucky.

Two years ago my alcohol consumption dropped and now it’s to the point I never drink. I only drank socially on weekends to begin with but now I have zero desire to drink. Can’t explain why. I was in good health beforehand so I haven’t really noticed a difference on that front.

what does the general have to with this?

Almost 4 years sober. Cold Turkey. .. health was my underlying reason but my whole life has changed. It really wasn’t hard because the consequences were going to be severe.. I didn’t suffer withdrawals so I can’t speak to that difficulty. It’s not always better. I still miss drinking on certain occasions, I sometimes wish I could just have a nice strong cocktail to relax. I can’t anymore so I choose not to.. while addiction can be physical, ultimately you have to choose and I’m happy I did

I’ve never understood how a man just can’t stop drinking. I just don’t get how you can’t go a day without alcohol. Is it really addictive or is it just a habit you can’t break?

I haven’t had a sip of alcohol since and don’t ever have any desires to touch it again
To say I hit rock bottom is an understatement, everything about my life, and I mean everything, remarkably turned around for the best.
Mental health, relationships, career, my obligation as a father and a husband, financial situation….. getting sober was truly a gift and is something that I believe only people who have suffered this much can appreciate it being a gift

Never have but I imagine the health benefits are great. Might give it a shot (no pun intended).

I did.
I’m in AA. Best thing to ever happen to me.

I dunno, but I’ve (embarrassing to admit) become an alcoholic the last 2 years and I need to change. But everyday I start the cycle over again. I go to bed just about every night with great intentions for the next day.
Try AA. You don’t have to go it alone.

Has anyone just given it up cold turkey? Did you notice a big difference in your health? Life? Relationships? Did you go back?
I did just that for a couple of years back in the mid-90's just for the hell of it. Quit drinking any form of alcohol and my preferred drinks were either bottled beer or rum, coke and a squeeze of lemon or lime (Cuba Libra).
I still went to bars but drank NA brands or just soda since I loved to play darts against decent competition and dart leagues and blind draw tournaments happen in bars.
Once I had enough of not drinking, I went back to my normal habit of a few beers or cocktails when out.
The thing I noticed most was the gradual transition of the younger white collar guys on Friday afternoons when drinking during Happy Hour.
They'd enter the bar in their coat and tie looking all professional and by the third or fourth drink with their buddies the coat would be off, the tie loosened and the "Frat Boy" mentality would come out with loud verbal exchanges, lots of high fives and the occasional spilled drink before paying their tabs and heading home.
It could be quite comical at times.

One of the best things to do is get rid of any alcohol in your house. It's so very easy to just crack a beer if there's one in the fridge.
I was having health issues and had bloodwork done and it was absolutely horrible. I gave up drinking cold and all of the problems I was having reverted back to normal.
You'll be happy once you stop.

Went over a year cold sober during cancer treatments.
Work and health immediately got better, personal relationships immediately got worse, because I am apparently kind of a dick if not buzzed on alcohol or weed.
Quitting wasn't especially hard bc health, so what are you going to do right? ... but filling that personal and relationship time was a fricking challenge.
My best advice is to throw yourself into whatever your escape is, golf, guitar, running, gaming, whatever, full bore.
I would lay my life down for my lady but she practically drove me insane during that time. Seriously, try engaging a woman full time cold sober and I swear you will question every major life decision you ever made.
Life used to be on autopilot. It's not like that now.
