but if you’re seriously considering giving it up just know you don’t have to. Find the happy medium and only have a couple drinks, don’t get blackout and you’re fine

Outside of a glass of wine with a nice meal or a small glass of bourbon, I struggle to see the point in drinking at all if you’re just going to have a few. Does nothing for me. It’s like foreplay that ends abruptly without the orgasm. Might as well just leave your dick in the pants and drink soda water with lime or non alcoholic beer.

I was an alcoholic. From the moment I woke up to going to bed. Last year on Fathers Day I stopped drinking cold turkey. It was rough for a week or so, but then things got better. I started sleeping better, sex life got better.

Problem is I like to drink socially. For 5 months I didn't touch alcohol but I wanted to get to a happy medium. I now only have a few drinks on the weekend. It took 6 months to change my relationship with alcohol and I feel so much better.

Gave it up for all of 2022. Noticed a huge difference in health, life overall, and yes relationships especially. Gradually started drinking again, albeit far more moderately, but I can definitely see myself taking another long hiatus again in the near future. Bottom line, it's ALWAYS worth it to stop, can't say the same for it always being worth it to drink.

Have it up July 2017 and haven’t had any second thoughts - feel so much better - never have to worry about doing anything stupid because of alcohol and now I happily drive my wife and her friends around a few times a year and they can all drink - they call me Uber Black now haha

For me I’d had enough of hangovers - and didn’t want my girls to see me hungover or drunk… certainly enjoyed my 20’s and 30’s but happily retired from that life and feel healthier and never tempted to go back personally - but everyone is different - I grew up in rural Ohio so social drinking means 15 beers haha - so I was codified at an early age that switch is on or off haha but good luck to you sir - just being cognizant of this is great and you will find what works for you…

I did. Needed a lifestyle change and alcoholism runs on both sides of my family. March 24th will be 1 year. The only times I sometimes “miss it” are times like after a long morning of fishing or something like that, where a cold beer would hit the spot. But that feeling doesn’t linger or anything like that. I def don’t miss drinking in social situations. Maybe one day I can get back to having a beer here n there and that being it. But maybe I can’t? And you know what I’m fine with that. I’ve seen alcohol destroy a lot of people lives and I just refuse to let that happen to me.

I found it helpful to do short term goals. Going just cold turkey is hard, esp mentally. This article really helped me: LINK /.

I’ve done 30 day challenge before so this time I started with 90 days. After 90 days I was feeling so much better mentally and physically I was like let’s do 6 months. At 6 months I still felt amazing and was surprised at how fast it went by. So after that I said let’s do a year. And now I’m almost there. Everything in my life is better. Yours will be too.

My wife and I gave it up 31 years ago. Neither of us had a problem but came from families full of alcoholism and just didn’t want to take a chance. In addition we became Christians and didn’t want to based on our religious views.

Keep in mind, we didn’t drink very often anyway but there were a number of things that just got better. Our relationship got better and stuff just became easier. Folks will offer you a beer but won’t push it once you decline, so don’t worry about that.

I do really enjoy beer. I love the taste, etc. I’m at the point now where I will drink but I only do it when I’m on vacation. If we go to Florida for a week, I’ll buy a 12 pack and drink a few beers a day.

Quit last January. I'll have a drink or 2 on Mardi Gras and some holidays but thats it. Before that it was the usual baw style heavy weekend social drinker, and a few beers during the week.

Lost about 15 lb, brain fog gone, better sleep, no risk of doing dumb shite, and getting my weekend mornings back is a god send. The only time I miss it is tailgating, parties, at da camp etc but I get those non alcoholic craft beers and they work great as a substitute.

Itll be one of the best choices you can make for your health and being responsible for your family.

Yep. 13 months in now. Was a heavy beer drinker, the craft stuff. Would get drunk every time I was off well into the morning. It hadn’t got to the point where it was affecting my health or work but it started affecting my relationship and was making me worthless just laying around hungover on my off days, and I knew I was going to have to make a change. Quit Jan 11 2023 and haven’t had a sip

Positives are I’m in the best shape of my life at 33. I’ve always worked out but not drinking allowed me to take my fitness to the next level. My relationship with my fiance is alot better. My work life is a lot better, I don’t dread going into work the Monday after a weekend of binge drinking and I’m able to get a good nights sleep. Also, I’m able to save a lot more money without partying or spending $100 in Ubers every week.

Most people that quit drinking won’t mention any negatives but I’ll be honest with you here. Life is a lot more boring. Going to sporting events or to concerts or just going out in general isn’t going to be the same. I’ll still go out with friends and am happy to be the DD but most the time I’m content on just staying home and watching movies with my fiance’ or traveling with her. You sacrifice the drunken good times with buddies for a more peaceful and productive life and for the most part it’s an even trade off.

If you’re serious check this book out. It really put me in the right mind set when I was getting ready to quit.

Life is intended to be lived sober

Why does anyone require themselves to be intoxicated?

March 10th will be my one year.

I enjoy everything about life now. Work is more enjoyable and less stressful. I'm able to leave work stress at work instead of carrying it around with me.

One thing nobody tells you is that you have to retrain your body to sleep. Everyone always brings up the fact that they are getting better sleep and feel rested, but that comes with time.

I'm currently helping my boss through the early stages and he's struggling with the fact that he keeps waking up after an hour or two, then struggling to fall back asleep. Told him that his body is used to the alcohol keeping it down, and that he needs to re-learn how to fall back asleep. Took me about two months to master that, and still periodically wake up throughout the night, but can just rollover and fall back asleep now.

I think its a little easier for me because I have a child so we are staying in most of the time anyways but this is true. Life does get a little more boring.

For example, I have nothing to do at work today and all my chores are done so I could easily go day drink at breweries. Which would be my old.go to. I'd just bring my lap top incase something came up.

Now I have to find something else to do. I'm just caught up on all my shows currently and it's winter boo...

Also, I'm at 40 yrs old now and two rounds in a day is no longer a sure thing if I've been drinking too much. I like getting off a lot more than I like drinking.

That’s a lot of jerkin the gerkin.

I’ve given it up for the most part. I might have a beer every couple weeks but that’s only because I love the taste of it. Non-alcoholic beer/spirits are becoming more popular. There’s a new NA beer by Athletic brewery which the guy at total Wine said is extremely popular but I haven’t had it yet.

I have it up in 2016. Just got too old for the multi-day hangovers and feeling like
crap after drinking.

Had a drink or 2 here or there, but for the most part just quit.

Sometimes miss it when I’m hanging with my friends, but not a big deal. Plus, we always have a sober driver.

Went to a concert at Chelsea’s live about a month ago and was surprised at all the NA options. Had a couple of the NA IPAs and was pleasantly surprised. You’d never know the difference as far as the taste goes
