Has anyone just given it up cold turkey? Did you notice a big difference in your health? Life? Relationships? Did you go back?

I gave it up cold turkey for 6 months.

My family disowned me, wife left me, I got fired from my job and my friends finally sat me down and told me to stop being so fricking boring. Now I’m back to drinking socially and enjoying life

ETA: but if you’re seriously considering giving it up just know you don’t have to. Find the happy medium and only have a couple drinks, don’t get blackout and you’re fine. Keep working out too

All of those things will improve. I can guarantee it. How much each improves just depends.

Going on 8 months now. Definitely cheaper to do stuff. I miss wine with meals but I'm probably better off. Lots of empty calories

I have. Cold Turkey on nov6th 2021. Haven’t had any urges after about the first two months. Best choice I’ve ever met. Everybody loves me now.

I didn’t do cold turkey__however, every time I would drink, I would feel shitty for two days. It just was not fun anymore, so finally wised up and quit doing that to myself.

I dunno, but I’ve (embarrassing to admit) become an alcoholic the last 2 years and I need to change. But everyday I start the cycle over again. I go to bed just about every night with great intentions for the next day.

You’re not alone.

I haven’t asked for help yet, but I’m getting to that point because I seemingly can’t do it on my own, even though I’ve definitely tried multiple times. Hell I’m gonna try again tomorrow… I’ve got a sticky note on my kitchen counter “DO NOT DRINK TODAY!”

Fortunately it hasn’t wrecked my life yet… work, finances, etc still fine… but this is not who I want to be yet I keep doing it. I’m sorry I don’t have the answer for you.

How much did you drink?

An 8 ounce glass of wine with dinner or a pint of beer is a lot different than several glasses of wine or 4-5 pints?

I gave it up last week. I woke up with a hangover Thursday morning and said enough is enough. I'm done. I'm not quitting, I quit. Actually, I don't miss it. I feel better, I'm saving money and life is good sober.

I gave it up due to gout. I could eat anything I want but as ive gotten older after 5-6 beers, I'd get a gout attack. A weekend of camping and drinking and I couldn't walk for 2 days.

Now I just smoke. A ton.

Used to drink a few bourbons before bed every night, but it was adding to my waist line. I'll still drink at a party or on vacation, but it isn't a regular part of my daily life anymore.

Haven’t had any alcohol since the first lsu football game this year where I had one beer.

Lost the interest for it after dropping a few grand on my SO’s alcohol rehab.

ETA: mostly for the kids who I felt may be nervous if I drank while taking care of them by myself while SO was in treatment.

I have several times for months at a time, but I am a social drinker at best so it has no real effect.

Did Dry January cold Turkey, no issues but also no noticeable benefits besides maybe a couple of pounds.

You need to have an epic bender and get so sick you don’t have an urge to drink.

I realized I got to where I was drinking a mojito almost every day.
I took off from drinking and drank for first time this year last weekend. . But only 2 margaritas on beach.

I'm not sober but I will only drink on occasion now. .

Meh. It’s not like I drank a whole bunch. A couple beers or a mixed drink every other day. More for an lsu football game.

I don’t even know they really noticed. My in-laws noticed more than anyone else.
