I’ve got like 5 shingles missing, you telling me if I tarp the whole thing imma get a new roof?
Feel like I am going to get fricked because it’s such a small job and people will have lots of full roofs to change

I’ve got several rolls of waterproof synthetic underlayment coming to me, I’ve seen a few houses already have this up around me, can I put faith in the durability of the waterproofing claims? Any ideas on longevity vs a tarp?

There was a lot of that used after laura, including myself. It seemed to have held up just fine. It’s some tough stuff.

Each roll is 1000 sq ft so not sure how many several is but an average house isn't going to need much more than 3 or 4 rolls depending on pitch.
There are a few exceptions but overall tarps will break down after about 3 or 4 months. There are still roofs in LC with the felt on them in good condition here a year later. Synthetic felt will last a long time with no worries.

What about large trees that fell in my yard? Will insurance pay for the removal? How much should I try and remove my self before adjuster comes? I’ve already cleared what I needed to get out of my driveway.
Also, what about swimming pools and liners? I had a new liber pool installed a few months ago. It’s filled with limbs and debris from large oak tree. I can’t tell if liner is damaged and no power to run the pool.
Sorry if already posted/answered, haven’t been able to read the whole thread.

You won't get anything for downed trees not on structures or if you do it will be a very minimal cleanup allowance.
Yea they will pay for you to drain it, clean it, and the liner if needed.

I dont have a dog in this fight but I think it would be a great idea for Stout and/or other guys down there to put the names of reputable local roofing companies.
Im in North La and on the supply side, but I have seen too many times outfits that come in, rent office space for an address and get a Google Voice VoIP phone number and call themselves local.

Not using Chicken's board for free advertising for myself or others. They have Facebook groups for sharing that info.

Thanks for the info, stout. I think you mentioned it earlier in the thread, but did you say about $383 per square for a new roof? Getting quotes and I want to make sure they’re in the ballpark.

I've got a little bit more than that. Maybe 20? I called up my homeowner's and told them to put me down on the list as tarping needed from an approved entity/vendor.

Let FEMA tarp your roof. They secure it with 1x2's and hundreds of nails. You may not be missing a single tab but the insurance comapny has to buy that roof every time.

This is a true statement... unfortunately.

I had a card on my door for loyalty contracting & restoration out of Texas when I checked on my house today. They apparently are tarping houses in our neighborhood. Are they reputable?

What if I tarp whole roof or majority of it and insurance company comes out and says doesn't need full replacement? Didn't I just put a bunch of holes all in roof for nothing?
In my case insurance company is sending out a tarp crew, so will they only tarp what they see as damaged? Will adjuster remove tarp when he comes out?

Any tricks or recommendations on the tarping of whole roof with just the plywood left?
Any particular techniques or recommendations for us?
Also any particular tarp that you have had good luck with or just get the thickest we can find?
TIA

I’m in Kenner… my roof looks fine, but I’m not a pro and that it took some serious wind. Roof is new construction and only a year old. How do I make sure it doesn’t need repairs?

I lost a few shingles but after what others said there could be damage to the roofs integrity. Even a small fracture of a two by four that could go unnoticed would cause problems in the future.
If it takes tarping the whole roof so the insurance company will fix the roof properly than so be it.

I wonder the same, will my insurance just see tarps and say replace it?
Also does the army core/fema blue roof program just tarp the entire roof normally?

Wish I was that lucky…
In a similar boat minus the 3 holes in my roof due to a tree falling.
