How about you can go screw yourself and mind your business. No one said anything about advertising. This is a help thread. I’m offering help. What are you doing? I’ve been there everyday since Monday protecting people’s homes from further damage while you keyboard warrior away.

So you are working for free out of the kindness of your heart or are you billing people?

Billing the insurance which is what every homeowner is told to do to by their insurance….protect the insurance’s property.

Again, remind me what you’re doing to help anyone? Why don’t you go find some water and bring out here. We sure would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

I have an Insurance Adjuster coming on Tuesday.

I have tarps in place over the visible holes in roof.

Should I be contacting multiple roofers for multiple damage assessments prior to Tuesday or should I select one roofer only to come out and perform an assessment?

No need to have multiple people come out. Find one you feel comfortable with and think you can trust. The insurance now dictates how much your is worth. You should never owe more than your deductible unless you choose any upgrades. If the contractor feels the insurance didn’t pay properly, it’s on them to battle the insurance for supplemental payment.

Just got back my house and I'm missing maybe 15 to 20 shingles in various different spots. Went in the attic and it looks good in there.

Do I need to get my roof tarped immediately or should I be fine?

Agree with Stout. Tarp it if you can or can find someone to do it for you. If you still have felt and no wood is showing, you SHOULD be fine for a bit with no tarp but best case is to get it tarped. I know for us, we could put you on the list but you would go to the bottom as you aren’t in immediate danger. We are scrambling as is trying to cover people with holes, ceilings falling in, etc.

Guy wants $900 to cut trees and excavate trunks of 1 massive oak tree and 3 other 30 foot holly trees, along with removal of much debris, broken limbs, etc. What does the OT say? ( I have severe water damage so I am busy myself trying to get sopping wet insulation out of the attic and wet carpets and contents out of the house to mitigate damages and mildew.)

Not really in a big rush to get the outside tree trunks and debris gone as it is not causing damage other than eyesore, but I feel like for that price I’d be hard pressed to get someone months from now get even just 2 of the stumps out, much less everything else this guy is saying he’ll do

So you know if they are giving out tarps like they did during Katrina?

If so do you know where in the Mandeville covington area?

I know it’s been covered, and stout you should get a free year of if TD premium for this but …

I have a house with several spots of missing shingles. Roof is fairly pitched so I don’t feel safe going up there to tarp. Currently on the list with roofer to get it done - no idea on timeframe — do you (or others) suggest blue tarp program or just hang tight for roofer ?

For Baton Rouge that is an excellent price. Are they insured and bonded? Reputable company? If so do it and get one thing off your plate.

I edited, I don’t want to encourage any advertising in this thread either, just want to try and deal with local folks as much as possible and I dont have many ins with the contractor world. Sadly this is my only trusted source for post storm best practices and recommendations. Apologies, just sort of at wit’s end this week. I’ll just keep hitting the google to ping local folks as much as possible hoping for a response.

Nah people need to get help and I am not trying to stop that. I just dont want this thread to turn into solicitation without admin approval.

FYI, Facebook group pages are great for people sharing good and bad contractors. There is one up for Ida called "Hurricane And Storm Information for Louisiana"

There was/is a similar one for Lake Charles that called out a lot of the good and bad and helped people.

If Chicken wants to allow local providers to share their contact info then that is on him but he would need to give it the greenlight.

FTR I am a contractor and have had a few people email me from this thread but I was giving advice much the same as I did in this thread and did not accept any jobs from them. We are still pretty busy in LC. If I decide to go offer services there, I will pay for an ad on TD.
