Front license plates. If my front license plate is damaged or I just wanna take it off and add an LSU plate for example will I get a ticket or anything?

I see quite a few vehicles around Texas without a front plate just curious if this is risky or not

Front plates are just an excuse for the dmv to get twice the fees

No, as in within Texas, Texas registered vehicles, but choosing to not have a front license plate

Clear enough?

I see so many Texas plates driving around BR....I wonder what percentage of them are counterfeit?

Doesn't (or didn't) Texas allow people to print their own plates at kiosks in certain supermarket chains, etc? Seems like those could be cloned.....

By law in Texas one is required but I don't think they can pull you over and ticket you for it.

Some of the high end cars don't even have a place to put on.

One of my neighbors drives a high end Mercedes and has his on the front dash

Texas Transportation Code, Section 504.943. If a vehicle is registered in Texas, it must have both a front and rear license plate, even if the vehicle did not originally come with a front license plate bracket.

You can be ticketed for not having a front plate in Texas. Will you be? I don't know. But I think the fine is roughly $200 if you are ticketed.

I once got three warnings in one day for driving without the front plates on my way from Houston to Dallas and back.

Two of the warnings were within 5 minutes of each other and the officer just laughed.

Both me and my wife haven’t had front plates on either car for 20+ years.

Have not had a front license plate on last 4 cars in Texas, that spans 25 years.

Been pulled over a few times for other things and never got a warning or ticket for the missing plate.

There is a stolen one on a early 2000's red Dodge Ram around the Denham Springs area with a Mexican behind the wheel. He sideswiped my daughter 3 weeks ago and hauled arse.
She did manage to get a pic and called the cops. They said there was nothing they could do since the plate came back stolen off a white Camry.

A few years back I didn't put on the front license plate of a new car. In the city of Houston, never had an issue. During trips to South Texas, got pulled over and ticketed twice while driving through small towns (George West and Freer). Small town cops in South Texas are just looking for a reason to pull vehicles over and look inside.

They absolutely can pull you over for not having a "properly displayed" front license plate.

Until maybe 5 or so years ago there wasn't actually a fine associated with the offense though. You could literally receive a ticket with no penalty attached. But the state changed that.

As for "properly displayed." It doesn't have be attached to the front bumper, but it does have to be visible through the front windshield. You may still get pulled over for that if a cop is just wanting to be a dick. But we all know that never happens.
