Former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke has been banned from Twitter for breaking the social media platform's site’s rules forbidding hate speech.
The company said Friday that Duke's account “has been permanently suspended for repeated violations of the Twitter Rules on hateful conduct.” It didn't specify what exactly Duke posted that triggered the ban, but its policy on hateful conduct prohibits promoting violence or threatening attacks against people based on religious affiliation, race and ethnic origin.
Twitter said the ban was in line with its recently updated policy aimed at cutting down on harmful links. Under the new rules, the company may suspend accounts dedicated to sharing hateful content or that try to get around its blocks on sharing links to the material.

I'd rather not be a member of any club that includes Mr. Duke as a member.
Buddy D would have correctly characterized him as a "squirrel".

I have no problem with someone like Duke not be given a platform...
The problem is Twitter gives equally hateful (and honestly more hateful) people a platform.
The leader of fricking Iran is on there and has said despicable shite. No problem.

Duke is a fricking opportunist dirtbag but isn't it better to have his inane rantings out in public for people to be aware of and scrutinize?
I know Twitter is pseudo-private and can do what they want, but this whole scrubbing of ideas that people don't agree with, no matter how objectionably, is a troubling precedent to set.

Duke is the only klansman I've ever met.

sacrificial lamb to try and placate the right after the congressional hearing and the EO
Low hanging fruit. frick twitter and their pandering.
If they cared at all about what they say they do, any antifa post and most BLM posts and their user ID would be permanently banned.

As well he should be. I just wish they would ban someone just as hateful - Louis Farakhan.

What about Ayatollah Khomeini? Twitter defended it's stance to not ban the Khomeini's tweets that called for the genocide of Israeli's because " comments on political issues of the day or foreign policy saber-rattling on military, economic issues are generally not in violation of our rules."
Twitter deserves everything that is about to happen to them.

You can't ban a protected class, no matter how vile they are.

Weird, someone has to have seen what caused the ban right?

Thank you for sharing. We are all smarter today because of your informative post.

I am sure I could find 100 examples of things worse than what Duke has posted in less than an hour.
It's why this type of censorship is bad -- there is no way to enforce it equally.

This completely marginalized racial separatism that maybe 1000 people agree with Is dangerous and VERBOTEN. But this violent racial separatism that has turned our cities into violent war zones not only gets the seal of approval, but if you disagree with it we will RUIN YOU. Makes sense.

Twitter isn't a club anymore than AT&T or Capital One are clubs. You probably are a member of many "clubs" that Duke is a member of.
