Those guys built a temporary road to a cut off place in a week. It's not an interstate or a permanent road, but it's a helluva lot more than FEMA had done since the flood. They deserve praise for taking initiative and helping people who desperately need help, instead doing studies and avoiding Trump signs.
Yep. I’ve driven on roads like that all my life and I just don’t see the problem. I’m sure the ones using it appreciate it and would know how to use it. I’d also bet the baws that built it would be there to help keep it cleared and as safe as possible. Road for what it is being used for is fine.

Yeah that road is in no way fricking safe, especially for larger trucks and machinery.
Then FEMA shouldn’t use it. That road being there is none of their concern

How is this anyone's concern what they do with their land. It's essentially a private access road. The Feds might get Ruby Ridged back in them hills.

Federal agencies are so fricking terribly ran. frick FEMA and the idiots in charge of it

You should see what loggers drive on out west. That road is perfectly serviceable for temporary emergency use.
not just loggers, I've driven some sketchy shite that was in much worse shape (and with WAY more exposure) than this "road" to get to trout streams and alpine lakes.

I wish FEMA would just go away and leave people to their own devices, for better or worse. The people of the USA deserve to find out if it’s worth their tax dollars.

This thread sure brought out a bunch of people that do not know how to take care of themselves. Waiting for the government to do something.

That was my thought as well. The other reasons they don't like it is because 1) it shows how slow, inefficient, and incompetent they are, and as such, 2) it's embarrassing to them and displays how unnecessary they are.

Sometimes you just have to say f the government and take things into your own hands.

Yea, this road in question is damn nice compared to some of the stuff in the rockies I've seen logging trucks hauling arse down.
FMEA taking any action to hinder these people from using their own road to help their own community is theft of taxpayers dollars and everyone involved should be fired without severance or benefits or anything.
By the same token, anyone who uses it should be unable to sue anyone else involved for what they've done to try to help people. This litigious arse world is fricking garbage and I hate that it even needs to be said, but anyone who would dream of doing such a thing is a plague on society and should live out their life in prison IMO.

NC government would not have even started that road for a couple of years.
NC DOT has been working their asses off
Also, 90% of the shite posted on twitter and TikTok from Helene has been bullshite, so we should take that post with a grain of salt.

Well, they were just trying to build something serviceable to get help and supplies to people that fema couldn’t/wouldn’t help.

It and Maryland are below the mason dixon line genius to be quite honest more southern than western NC & East Tn during the war of northern aggression damn Yankee sympathizers.

Actually I just talked to a buddy that was doing work there and it was locals from lake lure that did that. My buddy’s crew cut the locks off the gate & went back to work, two weekends ago. He said they have a lot of punks in the local govt in Swannanoa. FWIW

Government is paid by the taxpayers and works for the people. If they aren't working for the people, they aren't needed and the department should be dissolved, everyone fired, no benefits paid.
