UPDATE: The post below about the road that West Virginia coal miners came and cut between Bat Cave and Chimney Rock. Well it was sealed off by @FEMA by a metal gate and a sign. Some country boys tore that gate down and started using the road again for supplies.
Now FEMA is looking for $280,000 to seal it off again with a gate, cameras, and armed guards. Those guards are going to be seen as invaders and probably are going to have a very scary night. This is a bad idea FEMA, take the hint and F off before you start a fight you can’t decide when it ends. The road is safe, and there’s no good reason to block it.
I thought FEMA was broke

Them baws should cover the area with Trump signs to keep FEMA away

Yeah I wouldn't want to be the guards hired by some government goons to block mountain folks access

Bet some of that $280K could help reopen I40 between TN and NC.

Road is a huge understatement - It's a path.

A spokesman for the DOT said the miners did not build an access road further down near Bat Cave that's safe.
"We appreciate the intentions of a mining crew from West Virginia," said David Uchiyama, an NCDOT spokesman. "They're the creation of a path — not enough to support vehicular traffic — south from Bat Cave occurred on private land and beyond the purview of transportation officials."

Do Yankees qualify as Baws? I've lived in West Virginia and they are some good people but I don't think they qualify as baw.

Yeah I had to laugh at this

A road that North Carolina Government Officials said would take several months to a year for them to do. #appalachianstrong
When I saw the pictures:
Yeah I don't think that is what "North Carolina officials" were talking about taking several months to complete

This is job creation in the eyes of the government. Efficiency does the opposite of create jobs.
We saw it here after the 2016 flood. $130K trailers for everybody! and 5 FEMA workers to come by every other week to check on things.

Coal miners from West Virginia – whom locals have lovingly dubbed the “West Virginia Boys” – moved a mountain in just three days to reopen a 2.7-mile stretch of Highway 64 between Bat Cave and Chimney Rock washed away by Helene.
Chimney Rock residents who fled the hurricane one month ago will now be able to return home for the first time within a few days, months earlier than they expected.

“The West Virginia boys have moved the mountains. All of the roads were just gone, until now. It’s nothing short of miraculous.
“I haven’t been to my house since the flood but I know very soon I’ll be able to. Without their help, who knows, it would be months before I could access our house.”

Just learning about this for the first time. Why on Earth is FEMA blocking the road?

This could get interesting quick.

It's a one lane dirt road following the river bank that's very hilly and dangerous in most spots.
Biff, Braxton, and the rest of the family are too stupid to travel it safely.
Just watch the video. A few rains, and that whole road is going to disappear into the river.

Yeah that road is in no way fricking safe, especially for larger trucks and machinery.

And the lawsuits will fly quickly when that happens.

We need some volunteer forensic accountants to look at FEMA finances and report to Musk. FEMA has not covered themselves with glory.

A baw is an attitude, not a location.
