The only handles appear to be on the actual restraint, that seems like a terrible design to me? If it’s negative G force pulling you out and the restraint fails, why not have a back up handle somewhere for safety reasons to hold onto? It would be one thing if there’s a back up buckle as said.

That does sound terrible if the guy was holding on for his life most of the ride and then failed at the very last part.

Maybe they downvoted because you posted like an egghead. And the fact that you are upset by 6 downvotes is sad.

It feels like an overreaction to tear the entire ride down.

Sadly, once the lawyers are through, the ride will probably be permanently shut down.

My theory is that big Demetrius plopped in the seat, the restraint didn't latch, but the kid working either didn't pull on it, or told him he would be fine. Was scared to tell the guy he couldn't ride. Ride takes off, and big D realizes he's in a world of shite. He hangs on for most of the ride, but the final hills and turns do him in.

Not the fault of the ride manufacturer at all. But a combination of poor operations by the staff coupled with fear of being accused of being racist, the workers should have never let that ride leave the station with him on it.

It’s really sad to think he might have been fighting for his life the entire time and almost made it to the end.

I dont think he fell out by the cameras, I think he fell from another car above and landed on the car passing the cameras.

Yea, I get all that. Its doesnt stop all the bad idea receptors from firing in my brain as I watch my kids walk past a carnie to get on a 40 year old roller coaster maintained by people who couldnt get a real job.

Theres no reason to be there at all, much less spending lots of money to be there. Amusement parks are awful and I hate them.

To my recollection, Sea World and Busch Gardens don't use belts on these either.

The same manufacturer made the mako
Coaster at sea world. They shut it down early yesterday and haven’t said if they’re reopening it today.

I swear, it's like posting in Plato's Cave some days

Except in Plato’s cave, the prisoners at least had the excuse of being chained to the wall. Here, they’re doing it voluntarily, while paying Chicken’s exorbitant premium rates for the privilege.

Safety checks would prevent the ride from leaving the loading station without lock verification.
Now, it's entirely within the realm of possibility that safety latches, proximity switches were modified in some way that bypassed this safety check.

You can thank the advent of "summer passes" aka cheap day care for the locals, for this.

You can see where he was sitting in the top left picture. The restraint is up which means that open seat was his. They close the restrains for the open seats on every roller coaster I’ve ever been on.

Maybe I’m a pussy, it is what it is, but I’ve never needed a safety check on a roller coaster I’m checking that thing myself like 10 times. You gotta be some kinda ignorant or stupid to want to be on a ride that’s not properly locked down

What a horrific turn of events. For the victims family who where there to enjoy a fun day of amusement and also the passengers and patrons who had to witness the carnage and terror.

I think I read that the ride will not launch unless all restraints are fully engaged.

I used to work with a guy that would spend an untold amount of money on Disney trips every summer. Now this was just him and his wife as they are mid 50's and their kid is grown up and doing his own thing.

With the kind of money they were plopping down i would have rather seen a national park out west like Glacier or the Grand Tetons, not f'ing Disney, but to each their own I guess.

If he fell 100' onto a moving car, those pictures would be a lot uglier.

I take that coaster doesn't invert since it doesn't have over the shoulder restraints.

So it was 0 G why he came out?
