Damn, can't believe the other passengers didn't try to corral him at all...just terrible fate
I seriously doubt anyone on that ride could “corral” a fully grown man while they are free falling

This would have never happened at Action Park.

And no one expects a dude to come falling out of the sky on a rollercoaster. Assuming the rest were strapped in well they probably couldn't reach much anyways.

Ive never been on a roller coaster that completely relied on a restraint Usually g forces keep you in seat. Restraints are just extra
You would have loved the Zephyr at Pontchartrain Beach.

man imagine you are riding a coaster and then a big black arse smashes you in the face

Reading eyewitness reports on X and Reddit, the train returned with the restraints fully up/open. Total cluster of either maintenance or ride ops. Also very unverified and rumor, the rider had been refused entry on other rides due to size.

I love roller coasters but every single time I get on Goliath or another coaster with only a lap restraint, I get a little nervous for a second.
That poor family. Hope they put Six Flags out of business.

The only way that other riders on a b&m like that could even move really is if the restraint for everyone failed, which is basically impossible.
The seats have redundant hydraulic systems that can only be activated when connected to the specific system at the station. The only way to even move them is to bleed them out if you are not at the station.
It is almost certain this guy didn't get restrained some how and they still ran the ride

Still, the alternative is to watch a man die...gotta grab onto something there in that situation

What's weird is that he fell out on basically the last little dip. You'd think if the ratchet pins weren't engaged all the way, it would have failed way earlier in the ride.
Those B&M clam restraints have individual ratchets for each restraint. They're unlocked per row, but they lock individually. I'm pretty sure each restraint has two ratchets and two pins per ratchet for redundancy. You'd need all four pins or both ratchets to fail. It's puzzling.

A question for anyone who has ridden the ride. Do the restraints lock down even on empty seats?
Looking at the upper left photo in the picture cluster, it looks like the orange restraint just below and to the right of the 08 photo identifier, is up/forward. I'm wondering if that was his seat, and if the person in the black clothing on the outside seat is the son.

Yeah, I think I would swear off roller coasters if I took a hit from a flying passenger. That'd be it for me.

Reach seat is independent of each other. Generally if the seat is left empty the station attendant ratchets it all the way down.
I've never seen one left up.
I have seen rather large people try to ride and they turn them down as they are to large to catch that step in the mechanical restraint

The guy that fell loved it to death.

I was next in line to get on Goliath. Someone did in fact fall out. The train pulled into the station, all the riders were distressed, and a man who was sitting next to the seat that failed was screaming that whoever was sitting next to him fell out. The seats restrain was completely unlatched and unlocked with no one in the seat. Very sad and surreal to see a train return with the seat up and unlocked while people are crying and yelling to get off.
Holy shite! We rode the Goliath right after it opened. That’s a monster of a roller coaster. Damn. That’s a terrible way to go.

You watch to many movies. No one would have been able to grab on to something to save this guy. Hollywood has you believing that a 135lb women would have bear-hugged this 250lb man, while the ride is still moving, and safely held on to him till the end of the ride. Don’t be so gullible, the physics don’t work for your scenario.
