Fact or Fiction: The true reason behind the Monument Removal

Let me start off by saying that personally, I am indifferent toward the statues. I personally feel that the money would be better spent on programs that directly help low income families of any race/creed find employment or job training.
That said, there seems to be two different narratives
1. Southerners want the statues up because it serves as a reminder of their history
2. The statues were built with the primary purpose of intimidating blacks post reconstruction era.
To be honest, both narratives have a strong case. As a Black man, I could look at this is multiple ways.
If the purpose was for intimidation, it failed to stop the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Act (although it did possibly set things back by decades).
If the purpose was for history, it could be argued that museums would be better place to study and learn about this in proper context.
The sad part of all of this is that it seems this is just another ploy by left extremists.

Don't laugh, that Night At the Museum thing could happen.

They aren't mutually exclusive. Southern whites wanted to put up statues to remind them of their history of intimidating blacks

FACT: Mitch is a Bitch
FACT: The other removers are weak
FACT: Nothing will change from removing statues

I believe the statues were built more as an F you to the carpetbagging Yankees than they were to intimidate blacks.

So the statues were built as a source of pride for whites and as a scarecrow for blacks?

The WW2 memorial in DC wasn't built until 60 years after the war ended. That theory is fricking stupid.

What do you think the liberty monument was erected for?

Tear down Stonehenge and we'll talk.
The folks who built it oppressed my ancestors.

Pretty much every point you made is correct. Started as political pandering by the left, with some truth behind their argument. I also believe it serves as an attempt to add another feather in their hat when arguing that most whites are racist. Therefore, limiting the amount of success black in America can achieve.

The price of the statues is drugs and rap, they just don't know it yet.
