believe that to be rational. However, do you believe this is the pervasive logic of the people triggered by "lifeless chunks of metal" being removed? I would think the waste of government money in the state of LA and New Orleans specifically has been so common, that to be up in arms over it (including in non-Louisiana cases, like Charlottesville and Austin) seems like your rational point is not the unanimous disposition of the muh statue crowd.

What do you think the unanimous disposition of the pro statue crowd is? I don't think the majority is a bunch of racists who are proud of their slave owning roots. The ones who show up to protest with NAZI signs obviously are, but the majority feel time/funds/energy could be spent on something much more constructive. I could be wrong but I don't see the majority pro statue supporters being a bunch of NAZI white supremacists.

wish more black people like yourself would be more vocal. Ones that realize there are much bigger problems facing the black community than giant chunks of metal. I know there a lot of black people who feel the same way but I think they just keep silent in fear of being called an Uncle Tom.

Its boils down to two harsh realities. One is that many Blacks are indifferent and just want live in peace and enjoy the opportunities in a post civil rights America.

The other is that Blacks politics has become victimhood over responsible living and entrepreneurship.

No politician in a black controlled area wants to tell them the truth about real problems. Even in large scale elections, no one wants to anger their base.

If I promise reasonable change but my opponent offers guilt free rhetoric and free services..... You get the idea

OP
Those are some interesting observations.

However, they seem to pertain to why monuments were erected not why they are being torn down.

I'm just sayin...

Then the politicians and activists that 'serve' the black community are doing a disservice to their people

Sort of like someone's house being on fire, and instead of the firefighters putting it out, they get everyone out of the house then just give them Krispy Kreme (doesn't solve the problem but provides temp relief) and watch their shite burn to the ground...

Nobody that caters to the black community gives a frick about the things that are broken and ruining their society. everything now is posturing for some sort of political play or personal gain, yet they keep electing the same type of individual and we have seen ZERO progress for black culture and that's why it's hard to feel bad for them

Before Landrieu brought it up, few to no blacks even knew who was a Confederate general and where his statute was located.

Yeap, worked with a black guy named Robert Lee. He had no idea who Robert E Lee was and obviously neither did his parents.

I also think the arguments in support of the statues are seldom genuine.

I think the group that supports the statues typically think that the take 'em down crowd are full of shite, which is why they support the statues being up.

I feel like it's more of a 'how the situation was approached', more than the issue itself. If there was some sort of civil war museum that was created and the statues were placed there by the government or some other entity I don't believe there would be as issue. But, instead a group of people threw a hissy-fit and began acting as if they are offended by a statue(s) that they probably didn't give two seconds thought to in their lives.

There is also the slippery slope angle. What will be enough for the left? The goal posts seem to move quite often.

ETA: I don't care either way, in regards to the statues. But, I do believe that taking them down is a waste of money, and giving into the perpetually offended can be dangerous.

The Reconstruction Era ended in 1877 and almost all the carpetbaggers had left prior to that (not much blood left in the turnip). Most of the statues that went up were post 1900. I'm thinking it was more about intimidation but probably also included both the freedom and desire to pay homage to people the felt hindered from honoring during Reconstruction.

Honestly, Reconstruction, or at least the execution of it, did nothing to help the South's acceptance of freed slaves and free blacks in general and more likely fostered resentment and subsequent mistreatment of blacks which in turn fostered mistrust and resentment of whites.

The old viscous cycle. We are still seeing its legacy today, IMO.

Nobody truly gives a frick about the statues. Our society is pathetic.

2 months ago, less than a fraction of this country even knew or cared about these statues, now they are sooooo important.

How frickING PATHETIC has our society become? People are told how to feel, what to be upset about, and they do it all under the IGNORANT guise of "being enlightened"

And I don't give a fricking shite, tear them down, every fricking one of them, but do it without ONE frickING IOTA of my tax money.

I mean, IT IS SUCH A BIG frickING DEAL RIGHT??? SO VASTLY IMPORTANT???? THERE SHOULD BE MILLIONS OF VOLUNTEERS READY TO OFFER FREE LABOR!

None of this is about race, the past, monuments or the present. It is simply the next front in the war to achieve implementation of global socialism, assets confiscation and wealth redistribution. George Soros and friends are funding both sides as well as the political/bureaucratic Deep State. We are in for a rough ride....

Why are you yelling?

I think that's true. On both sides, too. I wish it would just stop.

This is my biggest issue with all this. There are so many things that tax money could go to. Like better law enforcement and road work in NOLA.

I really don't care if the statues remain or go. I'm still trying to understand how statues are denying opportunities for those who oppose them.

2. The statues were built with the primary purpose of intimidating blacks post reconstruction era.

Or the primary purpose was for rememberance in the post war era circa 1890-1920. Most memorials aren't built until years after the conflict ended.

White nationalist are tired of being pushed around. Taking monuments down is only going to piss them off more. The left doesn't give a shite about these monuments, it's the bigger picture they care about. Next they are going after the founding fathers, claiming they were all racist or slave owners. So the constitution must be replaced. Game over. Country gone to hell !
