Maybe they were built to intimidate blacks back then. Now, the only people I see "intimidated" by them are pussy arse white hipsters.
And everyday people don't GAF about them and don't pay them any mind. Nobody is actually intimidated or really cares about these statues. It's just more pandering.

Just like I explained in another thread - the time that most of these monuments were erected coincided with the dying off of the last of the veterans and their children wanted to honor/remember them. It is the exact same reason the national WWII memorial was dedicated until 2004; people didn't think about it because ma and pa were still around.

I never really cared for that monument. There's a legit gripe on that one. However it's a good reminder of how harsh the reconstruction era was and how the south paid their dues at the end of the war.
These reconstruction tactics gave rise to the monuments so people could once again regain some honor in their crushing defeat that cost them everything they had.

I feel like you message is a good one, and that you aren't here to start shite, but please explain this
how in the frick did statues set ANYTHING back by decades?? That's just an asinine assumption

If the purpose was for intimidation, it failed to stop the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Act (although it did possibly set things back by decades).

In 1987, World War II veteran Roger Durbin approached Representative Marcy Kaptur, a Democrat from Ohio, to ask if a World War II memorial could be constructed. Kaptur introduced the World War II Memorial Act to the House of Representatives as HR 3742 on December 10. The resolution authorized the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC) to establish a World War II memorial in "Washington, D.C., or its environs", but the bill was not voted on before the end of the session, so it was not passed. Two more times, in 1989 and 1991, Rep. Kaptur introduced similar legislation, but these bills suffered the same fate as the first, and did not become law.

Yeah, that doesn't really make a point, but ok. How's Mr. Anderson over at Raytheon doing? Or did you not get the job?

Those peaks coincide with the 50 and 100 year anniversaries of civil war battles

The sad part of all of this is that it seems this is just another ploy by left extremists.

I don't disagree, but none of these "statue supporters" really care about the statues as symbols to honor their history either.
5 years ago these statues didn't bother anyone, by and large. They could have added more or removed them and no one would have cared either way. Today you've got people who are dug in on both sides - one arguing they're oppressive and the other arguing they're untouchable monuments to history.
It is asinine.

Now I just have to be more racist on a personal level to make up for the lack of racist statues. Thanks Obama.

The timeline makes perfect sense.
The Civil War ended in 1865 formally. So by 1910, the veterans would be 45 years older. Considering military drafting of the time period, we have 55 to 70 year old confederates.
The bump during the Civil Rights era may be more racist-fueled. However one could argue that the obvious decline from 1910 was a significant sign of changing attitudes, despite imperfections.

Hardly anyone cared before January. Now to the left they are statues of trump.

Can you answer my question please

Southerners want the statues up because it serves as a reminder of their history
That's what many say, but the real reason is Bc we know these liberals (mostly white-guilt rejects) will never be happy until whites are paying reparations, and even then that won't be enough. Give them an inch type thing. And also Bc the black community has so many real problems that it should focus on and the statues are not only a distraction, but a deflection. Blame whitey some more. Never ever look in a mirror.
So the argument for keeping the statues is harder to explain than screaming "white supremacy!"

Everything is going fine. But dont get off topic.
I posted that to get you to see that I the monument for WWII was commissioned after the war. One of the obstacles was not really knowing where to place the WWII monument as it obstructed the view of other monuments.

It's completely asinine. I don't care about the statues, but I don't think that most of the people who are now offended by the statues gave a shite one way or the other until they were told by someone that they should be offended by them, either.
It's all about a win for the leftists. What's their end game? Will their lives change if there are no more statues?
If any of the statue proponents thought that the "take 'em down" crowd would become more productive members of society once the statues were down, they'd probably gladly have them moved into a museum, or something of that nature.

This is why I made the first comment in my OP. This never was about helping Blacks or anyone else.
