re: Faced with soaring Ds and Fs, schools are ditching the old way of grading

I mean if a teacher is grading based on behavior, work habits then they probably have a personal vendetta against a child.
By grading only the content of the work you can see if a child has learned the material, doesn't matter if the child is the laziest in class or the hardest worker. What is the point in a two page essay when you can get the same point across in 3 paragraphs?
Also allowing students to retake a similar test to one they failed allows for a student to go back and relearn material which they may not have understood. Of course you can't give them 3+ retakes but allowing it to happen is good teaching.

If you think customer service and the quality of many things are shitty now, just wait until until these new grading / accountability standards are ingrained into society. The entire country will be the Popeyes drive through.
It was actually on the way there already with all of this institutional racism garbage, but the "pandemic" has expedited it's delivery.

The wording is confusing - especially for a 3rd grader because why does the student have to think about the 17 first when taking the 4 from it to make a 30 with the 26?
I agree, and how they present it isn’t how I would go about it in my head. With that said, things like this are (one has to assume based on context) the absolute worst offenders. It’s been a long time, but I remember from my time in school terrible explanations in textbooks, word problems that were unsolvable because they had a syntax error, etc. So dumb shite text books have always existed.
I would have no issue with people saying that these kind of math lessons could, and should, be done better. But I take significant issue with the “hur dur look how much faster standard math is” memes. Math competency of adults in this country is fricking terrible.

Liberals: when your social engineering strategy fails, move the goal posts aka dumb it down to give a false impression that students are meeting reasonable academic standards.

And this is demonstrated on this board daily. "I only pay cash for cars!" Some of y'all are terrible with numbers.
