You know some of the people I'm talking about, aside from relatives.

No shite, isn’t that how algorithms work on social media?

I actually said the same thing. Actually I said "oh so in 2018 they started doing what google has been doing for years".

quote:

I haven’t watched what she said yet but if it’s how bad white people then she can frick off. If this country was a racist as some believe then those same people that believe that would have been wiped out long ago.

There was not one mention of race. To sum it up, she talks about how the algorithm keeps people on FB longer.

I think most people would agree social media is a problem. It can be a helpful tool, but it can also be dangerous. If I recall, they say 60% of people with internet access uses FB which is 2.6 billion people. Having the ability to reach out to that many people gives FB a lot of power.

Personally, I think social media is dangerous and how it is used needs to be revised. I don't know how that should be done, but when what people see can be controlled that is a problem.

You mean they didn't comment on how they were used to assist blmantifa riots in 2020?

That information is actually used both ways. People are more likely to get out and go vote when it feels personal.

I don't think its a coincidence that we heard a lot about BLM in 2016 then it died down then last year, an election year, all of a sudden there is one incident that is used to cause outrage among people who think cops are out killing black people on a regular basis.. Then the response from that is used to show people that the world is full of chaos..

And then that perception alone does create chaos. Then the pandemic was used to divide people. And all of this was done through social media.

That boiled my blood. Pure tyranny. How do these frickers not realize that they’re clearly evil? Like comically evil. That bitch would toss me into a gas chamber without a second though. I like bringing up Harry Potter since the Woke like that property, and how are they not exactly like Umbridge and the Darth Eaters at this point? YouTube

And this bitch is going to testify before Congress this week? Have Tim Pool and/or Ben Shapiro go over there and argue with this tyrannical twat.

I think this should be required viewing, is the most important podcast ever filmed, and should be preserved in the Library of Congress so future historians understand why we are where we are now. Joe Rogan had on Jack Dorsey for a dumpster fire of a podcast which Rogan openly acknowledged was his worst episode ever. So Dorsey agreed to come back on where Rogan would bring on a prosecutor and Dorsey brought on his literal defense attorney. The podcast may as well be called “The People vs Twitter”. Tim Pool serves as the prosecution where he accuses Twitter of crimes against humanity and directly causing a second civil war. Vijaya Gadde (the person actually in charge of Twitter) serves as the defense, and Tim just destroys her. Everyone needs to watch this, since it is highly important to understand where we are now. Three and a half hours, but well worth your time: YouTube

Exactly. This shouldn't be a partisan issue understanding that these social media companies are bad for this country and for the world. They're incredibly manipulative with absolutely zero accountability.

I quit using FB probably 5 or so years ago and don't miss it a bit. Right wing, left wing, virtue signaling, conspiracy theories, just a fricking absolute cesspool of opinions and statements from people that I considered friends and acquaintances.

As a society, we used to put the crazies away in homes or hide them in public. Social media not only drags them out of the woodwork but gives them spotlights and megaphones to amplify their insanity.

Start considering these companies publishers, holding them legally liable for what's published on their platforms, and they'll straighten right the frick up.

This doesn't exist. It's only a buzzword and has no legal ramifications

In other words, algorithms which load your feed with mainly things you like or agree with are a major perpetuator of the "echo chamber" effect.

Im not asking to be a smartass or anything, I am seriously interest. Where do you get your news from?

The only social media I use is Twitter & instagram (On twitter 90% of it is sports related, but I also use it to keep up with current events. Instagram isn't used to get news).

If I am following a news story, I do so through the WSJ or the AP.

Also, I have the apple news set up that I pretty use to get notifications. Most of them I have no interest to read about beyond the notification. But when there are current events I really have an interest in, I will look to see what is being said about it on both sides of the argument.

I consider myself a "responsible social media user" as well as anyone who uses it to follow family & friends in order to share pictures & to stay in contact. In fact, that seemed to be the initial purpose of social media. Key word being 'social'.

Also it started out as a good way to share information as well, but it slowly became weaponized.

When it comes to social media, I don't think freedom of speech applies because I see it as a tool. Sort of like a bull horn. If there is a huge crowd of people, you can use a bull horn so that more people in that crowd can hear what you are saying. That's what social media does, allows people to reach a bigger crowd to share their views.

Then there is the business side of it. I am all for companies making as much money as possible, but not at all cost. Industrial companies can't dump toxic waste into a community's drinking water and if they do and it starts to have a negative impact on the community they can be sued.

FB maximizes its profits by the amount of users and the amount if time those users spend on the app/site. Their algorithm is used to feed each user specific information that keeps them on longer and I think that is toxic.

Until people realize Facebook was started by a huge ultra mega nerd with the penis the size of a green pea, and all that there is to it is old grannies posting pics of grandkids which results in fights between inlaws and people fighting over EVERY thing (old vs young, rich vs poor, white vs. black, republican vs democrat, false information etc... then that site will continue to thrive. It is trash. It's crap and everyone has an account. Delete the account. Don't support that alien penis headed loser Mark frickerberg. Bankrupt him.
