This is the problem…..,I want the Sub. Been hung up on the Sub.

If you want a sub and it’s not going to hurt you financially, get the sub.

If you get it and change your mind you can always sell it for basically what you paid for it (unless you overpay greatly on secondary).

If you just want a nice entry level watch and it doesn’t have to be a sub, then the latest Black Bay 58 that was released in 2026 is a great watch for around 5k.

Tudor, Ball and Longines are all good entry level luxury watches to me. I'll add Doxa for good, affordable dive watches, along with Oris and Hamilton, which have already been mentioned several times.

recommend a Tag

I have a Link. Resale on Tag is in the crapper. Good/bad?

OP, a used Tag is very “affordable”.

Typical OT Baller answer. FPJourne. Nothing less than a Tourbillion.

That and I’ve had a lot of guys say their Rolexes spend a lot of time being repaired.
I have two Rolex watches

Once since 1989 and it has been away for around a total of two months since then to be serviced.

The second since 2010 and it has been away less than a month for service.

Neither watch has stopped keeping good time, the times I had them both serviced were for preventative maintenance.

PS: Read more and post less.

rolex is good if you get from dealer bc i will never lose value.

tudor, breitling, tag, and even omega can be bought under retail and will not really hold their values unless its a limited run watch like the turquoise dial chrono from tudor.

nobody will ever notice your watch unless they are a watch person. i ask strangers about their watches all the time. its always a fun conversation.

i think best value right now is longines. the new dive watches look great.

I have two Rolexes, a Rootbeer GMT and a TT Platinum dial Daytona. I bought them because they spoke to me and I really don't care if any of you like them or not! I wear them sparingly in rotation with a bunch of others. I have had the GMT serviced once in 10 years of ownership because the crown clutch was slipping. My wife has a DJ and a Yachtmaster. All of these were bought pre-owned through TZ/WUS/TRF. No issues.

The Sub is one of the top 5 iconic watches in history. If you have the itch, nothing else is going to scratch it. It's not going to lose a significant portion of it's value over the next 25 years. You can wear it almost anywhere. Anyone with a hint of class that you would be interested in associating with will appreciate it for what it is. Anyone who looks down on you for wearing it is a pretentious a-hole and anyone who gives you s*** about wearing it is a jealous wannabe.

Enjoy life, enjoy the success that has allowed you the disposable income to buy things that bring you joy and let the haters f*** right off!!

Rolex is known as one of the most reliable watches made. There’s no chance you’ve heard that they need frequent repairs unless you only hang around idiots.

Have your mom text me, I lost my Exp II inside her on Thursday. I would like to get it back if it happens to fall out.

I do t understand the boner for Rolex. Especially new ones. There’s so many brands out there Omega, Grand Seiko , Tudor, etc..

Can’t remember the YouTube channel but this guy goes over all kinds of watches at different price points. Recent Chanel has some celebs on it.

$20K is a very nice watch.

I think it's quite enjoyable to observe the movement of the second hand on an automatic timepiece for extended periods of time.

The reason I bumped this thread is to ask the honorable watch enthusiasts of this board their thoughts about Ball Watch Company. Thank you.

Ball Watch is not a manufacture of their own movements. They use and modify ETA/Selitta movements. Rolex, Grand Seiko and Omega manufacture their own movements inhouse. Not making their own is a problem from some buyers. If I'm spending 5 digits on a watch, I'd rather buy from a company that makes their own. YMMV
