Have almost pulled the trigger on a Rolex submariner date recently. Difficult to justify that price tag for a watch I’m going to wear. That and I’ve had a lot of guys say their Rolexes spend a lot of time being repaired. Was looking at Tudor, Ball, Longines, Etc……

Anyone have any opinions? Experience? Talk me into the Sub?

Fake ones? I don't hear this often. My wife and I both have one and they get worn a lot. No repairs in 10+ years. Plenty of friends and colleagues have them too and I don't know if I've ever heard of one needing to go into a repair, at least nothing serious enough or frequent enough to warrant mentioning when talking about watches, which does happen a good bit.

Most Rolexes are incredibly reliable, I’ve never had any trouble with mine.

Maybe some models are more issue prone due to the complexity of the movement?

End of the day if you ever think you might sell Rolex is the way to go because they hold their value better than others due to brand recognition not that the other watches are not of equal quality in some cases.

As with most things, it depends. Are you looking for a status symbol, something to impress people who know watches, most comfortable wear, the best-functioning watch, or the most expensive-looking watch to impress everyone?

Rolex is played out unless you're 60+ with a classic piece or new money looking to show off.

Maybe my sample size is too small…….maybe I just let a few stories influence my opinion more then I should have….

I have my dad's Rolex Oyster Datejust that was passed down to me. Purchased in 1982. It has only been serviced once and still works almost perfectly.

That requires abuse or they bought fakes. Rolexes are a favorite to be worked by watchmakers because they are very serviceable, well engineered timepieces. If you can afford a Rolex, that would be a much better value than anything else you just listed aside from maybe Tudor.

I've had a Submariner since the early 90's. It has never had anything go wrong with it or broke that needed repairs. I send it in every 5 years of so for service that changes the seals, lubrication, etc.

Omega are great ones. I also have had a submariner for 8 years and have had no problems.

To me, the Omega Seamaster is a better-looking watch than the Rolex Submariner.

OP is obviously about to spend 20K on a watch, so why don't you suggest some for him big baw?
