Vacations are expensive, but I am in the mindset of either choose to go and do it right, or don’t do it. Some people go on 3 or 4 mini vacations/getaways a year and are on a strict budget. I can’t go on vacation with strict discipline in place. The purpose of the vacay is to let go and step out of reality.

Ok - not a summer trip but wife (no pics) and I will go to Branson for 5 nights in October. Lodging, gas, food, some entertainment - I think I've estimated about $1800.

Earlier this summer we went to San Diego and L.A. (2 weeks total) and didn't spend much more than you did just to go to Orange Beach. That includes Disneyland, San Diego Zoo, Santa Monica Pier, Hollywood walk of fame, USS Midway, etc etc etc
