If I'm on a bicycle and cruising the speed limit on a road. No doubt the bicycle haters would still have a problem with me.

Y'all wanna have a meet-up at the funeral and do some knuckle-checking?

This isn't the thread for the debate. Make a spin-off and have at it.

It's clear that you take it personal when anyone even hints at a cyclist being to blame or at fault for an accident. It's not about fault, it's about risk. Apparently you believe that any accommodation on your part to reduce your risk is some kind of admission of guilt. Exposing yourself to risk is not the same thing as causing a crash. But denying or defying the current reality of the risk can certainly be deadly.

Well isht. Why give Billy badass the the chance to drive in the first place? A: because we expect billy badass to do it safely.

I mean... it’s right there. Perfect example of absolving overtaking driver.

Why is not running over the person in front of you “a problem”?

Your words are perfectly clear. You think it’s problematic not to run over slower drivers.

Yep. That’s been my experience on a motorcycle. If you’re behind someone-you’re an arsehole for going too fast. If you’re in front you’re an arsehole for going too slow.

Right. We should just all shut up and let the irresponsible have at it. How dare people call out he negleginent and irresponsible for what they are. Horrible.

It’s totally the people calling out irresponsibility and reckless operation that are the bad guys here.

More isht no one said.

Nope. People bitch about cyclists not stopping at stop signs. I’m fine if a cyclist rolls through and gets plowed by a driver.

Dam Right. Yet oddly many seem to think causing a crash is ok if the other person “exposed” themselves by going slower than the fastest vehicle on the road. It is what it is.

And I expect you’ll continue to see people die. It is what it is.

The whole issue with cyclist vs vehicles is the speed discrepancy. End of story. That’s what makes the entire thing unsafe.

Do you see a person driving 50 miles an hour on the interstate when everyone around them is going 70 (also the posted speed limit) as a problem?

Yes or no.

No. I think people that disrupt the natural speed of traffic( it can be cyclist, an 18 wheeler, grandma out for a stroll), are a problem and are a key contributor to traffic problems and have a higher frequency of accidents in their immediate vicinity.

This is a fricking fact. Like. I don’t fricking understand why you don’t understand this.

I've found, in Baton Rouge, most drivers have a problem with just about anything different. Bikes, motorcycles, trucks, etc.

You worthless frickers deserve the high insurance.

I’m pretty sure speeding, drunk driving, and distrcacted driving all cause more accidents than someone driving 70% of the speed limit.

Nope. I’ve never found it problematic to avoid running into them. Maybe I’m just an awesome driver?

Well, when a driver hits a tree the cause of the accident is indeed “speed differential”. But I don’t blame the tree for going too slow.

Yes. I’m sure speeding, distracted and drunk drivers do. But I’m sure Buddy has logged many many more hours in his car on the roadway than his back. And he’s encountered these dangerous drivers in his cars more times than the bike. How many times was he killed while driving his car? Bless the guys soul and I’m not fully blaming him. But cyclist must take responsibility for participating in something so dangerous.

Oh so you’re one of them, can’t see the forest from the trees folk.

It’s cool. Data is hard. But if you want to learn, There are all kinds of studies out there showing how driving slow in the fast lane and slower than the speed of traffic in general is dangerous and helps lead to more accidents

Good for you. I’m done arguing with you. It’s like talking to a brick wall.

I just can’t understand how you can’t admit that creating a bottleneck is dangerous. It won’t kill you. It won’t steal any of your hard earned street cred.

You’re acting like me saying it’s dangerous to put oneself in the position of being a rolling bottleneck for vehicles much larger and faster than you is me somehow saying it’s all the cyclists fault when they get hit.

I’m not sitting here going haha got what you deserved loser! Im saying it’s a really unsafe situation to be in. Which it is. Obviously.

Can you also admit that a driver on a two lane road without a shoulder should be extremely vigilant for any potential accidents? This includes cyclists, animals, debris, tractors, etc.

Nailed it! It is that mindset that leads to the horrific insurance rates. I was shocked when car insurance was cut in half just by moving to Houston which is a huge city and more crazy drivers

I'm going to randomly speculate that the kid never saw them on the bikes, most likely came over a hill going too fast and plowed through them. Texting could have been involved but it sounds like that road is hilly and winding. What a shame.
