The problem with the bike riding folks is they are relying on thousands of people to recognize them and move over In time. In just a single bike ride event. What person in their right mind would allow that many drivers to approach them from behind While they ride a bike? People make honest mistakes daily. And that mistake costs the bike rider their life. It’s nuts to risk it.

More people die in vehicle vs vehicle accidents this way than vehicle vs bike accidents.
What's your point?

Lifting weights is just better for you.
Is it?
Well for starters, I’ve never heard of someone getting run over by a car while lifting weights.
We don’t need to get into the oxidative stress of chronic cardio or talk about the disproportionate hunched over physique or the higher rate of A Fib or nagging back pain that is typical in cycling. The first point wins.

quote:Right. Driving over other road users is such an honest, easy, mistake to make. We can’t possibly expect them to do better. Poor drivers. Such victims of cyclist oppression!

It’s apparent from reading this thread that cyclists have achieved vegan-level cult-hood.
Even with all the cycling deaths, eating vegan kills more people.

People commit negligence daily. Does that change the result for the cyclists?

Oh, lifting weights comes with ZERO problems? Simmer down, beefcake.

The negligence is only going to increase. No amount of ‘share the road’ campaigns are going to fix that.

No. The point is that you are a fool to risk your life when all it takes is ONE person out of thousands not to see you in time to avoid your dumbass.

I’m just trying to save lives here. We are at the point where these cyclists should be nominated for Darwin Awards.

Yeah? 1 drunk driver could kill you while driving.

I'm all for calling out negligence and attempting to reduce it.
But reducing your exposure to negligence is not the same as excusing it. Not eliminating your exposure and giving up riding. Reducing your exposure by choosing when and where to ride.
It's just like your comment about giving up motorcycles is bowing down to negligent drivers. You seem to be so militant about cycling that you see any accommodation on your part to protect your own safety to be a surrender instead of a logical plan to deal with reality.

People are arguing in this thread that we should all get out of the way and let drivers too stupid or irresponsible not to hit cyclists take over the road.
I wonder if Buddy Amoroso agreed with this.

That doesn’t absolve the overtaking drivers responsibility to do it safely.
Never said it did.
But why give billy badass the chance to not do it safely?
quote:
When a driver hits a cyclist that’s a situation the driver created. The cyclist didn’t make the driver hit him. Bottleneck or not.
If the bottleneck wasn’t there, the driver wouldn’t hit the cyclist.
quote:
The expectation that everyone is going to go the same speed is silly.
Kinda like the expectation that everyone will pass safely?
quote:
If only I had been going as fast as “traffic” I wouldn’t have created that dangerous high-risk situation
Don’t blame me for math. It is what it do.
quote:
Wonderful network of blame shifting you’re created for yourself there.
What blame shifting? The vast majority of vehicle and cyclist crashes occur because billy badass wasn’t paying attention. The cyclist is more often than not, obeying the laws set for them.
quote:
What you seem to be saying is that the slower road user is at fault by default. That is bias.
No. It’s a fact.
If traffic is moving at 55 mph, and all of a sudden someone decides to go 35, that person is the one causing the problem.
How are you not grasping this?
quote:
can be if people ducking pay attention and don’t run over others because they are too self important to wait 30 seconds to pass safely.
There we go back to that If word.
If my mother had wheels she’d be a bike.
If I had a million bucks I’d buy a lambo.
Ifs don’t bring people back from the dead.
quote:
you’re saying bikes should be banned because drivers are too irresponsible—it’s like saying guns should be bannned because some people become murders.
For the last fricking time. Not what im saying. It’s almost like English is your second language.

Yes. One drunk driver could. But the chance is much less likely than someone running over me from behind as I ride a bike at 15 mph as thousands of vehicles driving at 4 times the speed come up from behind me. While on a bike. Who is more likely to die?
Posted on 6/30/18 at 11:22 pm to countryboy2
Why is 15 MPH the default biker speed?
