If drivers aren’t capable of doing this safely... it’s the drivers fault—the fact they are briefly inconvienced isn’t relevant.
create a potential problem every time someone has to pass them, I’m like super anti-cyclist?

Made up shite?
Do I have to spell it out for you nice and slow?
When the speed of traffic is 45 mph. And a car is going 15 mph. That car that is going 15 mph causes every other car behind them to slow way down, wait, and pass.
Guess when most accidents happen on two lane roads? When someone is passing. Shocking. Right?
So, if that car that is going 15 mph causes 30 cars to pass them up, that is 30 situations that would not occur if that car was going the speed of traffic.
Is what the car illegal? No. But it is dangerous and creates situations where people do risky things.
How is that hard to comprehend?

We aren’t talking about the interstate or roads where there’s a backup from a bike. You’re creating a strawman that doesn’t even relate to this situation where some guy wasn’t paying attention. What is wrong with you?

I gave up And here lies the problem. We have become acclimated to catering to the incompetent. People are arguing in this thread that we should all get out of the way and let drivers too stupid or irresponsible not to hit cyclists take over the road. Everyone should bow down to their inability navigate their vehicle safely on the road. This is how stupidity, incompetence, and irresponsibility triumph over those of us that aren’t. It’s a silly framework.
I think it’s closer to the equivalent of asymmetric warfare. Is any rational person willing to risk their life in order to educate LCD drivers with a ticket?

My continuing to ride a motorcycle on the street would not prevent a single stupid, inattentive, or irresponsible driver from "taking over the road". And your continuing to ride a bicycle won't either. Feel free to "get in the way" if you choose to.

It is a busy road for a two lane twisting highway. The state prison is on it and its the only road to it. The ferry isn't a road .
ETA. I see the ferry has been closed for a while. Just means more traffic on the hwy

Not at all what I’m arguing. Im arguing that the cyclist creates the situation of forcing someone to pass them up.
I mean.... they do..... they’re going slower than the speed of traffic. So traffic has to pass them up.
That’s a situation that the cyclist created. The traffic didn’t create that bottleneck.
quote:
Your bias is rather clear
There is no bias. If everyone is going the speed of traffic, there are no potential situations as no one is passing anyone up. Everyone’s just going the same relative speed.
Doesn’t matter if the one underspeed is a cyclist, a tractor, an 18 wheeler, or grandma going out for a stroll.
The situation is created because they are out of sync.
I’m trying to figure out how you think what I’m saying is anti cyclist because it isn’t. I’m perfectly fine with sharing the road. I have zero issues with the bikers on river road. I’ve never come close to hitting a biker and hopefully never will.
And for the record. I believe the vehicle driver is at fault the VAST majority of the time. I just wish the situation could be avoided all together

Riding bikes on highways is a fool’s errand. The driver was probably texting or surfing porn.

I drive river road frequently and always encounter cyclists. I always give them plenty room & slow down & when I pass I briefly enter oncoming lane to get by them. Of course never on a curve or oncoming traffic. But then again I am sane.

quote:It's illegal to impede the flow of traffic, so I couldn't get on the interstate and go 4mph, just like bikes aren't allowed to ride on a 55mph road going 10. And, it's fricking retarded.
It is legal for a cyclist to ride there, unless a minimum speed is posted it is legal to go as slow as you want
That's like walking across a live firing range, and then blaming someone for shooting you

quote:That doesn’t absolve the overtaking drivers responsibility to do it safely.
Im arguing that the cyclist creates the situation of forcing someone to pass them up.

That’s a situation that the cyclist created. The traffic didn’t create that bottleneck.
quote:The expectation that everyone is going to go the same speed is silly. I drove on a two lane road here in TX Friday afternoon. Speed limit 70. I was doing 80. And got passed by a driver that nearly had a head on with oncoming traffic. So.. I suppose that was my fault because I forced (sic) that driver to pass me. If only I had been going as fast as “traffic” I wouldn’t have created that dangerous high-risk situation
If everyone is going the speed of traffic, there are no potential situations as no one is passing anyone up
Wonderful network of blame shifting you’re created for yourself there.
quote:What you seem to be saying is that the slower road user is at fault by default. That is bias.
I’m trying to figure out how you think what I’m saying is anti cyclist because it isn’t.
quote:It can be if people ducking pay attention and don’t run over others because they are too self important to wait 30 seconds to pass safely.
And for the record. I believe the vehicle driver is at fault the VAST majority of the time. I just wish the situation could be avoided all together
If you’re saying bikes should be banned because drivers are too irresponsible—it’s like saying guns should be bannned because some people become murders.
We shouldn't define rights in terms of the lowest common denominator.

Cyclists take all of that risk (by evidence that the city is littered with ghost bikes) when they could be lifting weights like men.

We had this talk the other night. Gym memberships are super gay, maybe the gayest. Also a well known hideout for gays, go figure. Let me pay to get undressed, work out and get sweaty, get undressed again, shower and get dressed again around other men.
Explain how a gym membership is not gay?
Posted on 6/30/18 at 10:43 pm to ThatMakesSense
You see a lot of gay everywhere don’t you? The gym can’t be any gayer than fricking biker shorts. Every biker I see looks like a hunch backed old lady. Lifting weights is just better for you.

Banning guns because some people play Russian Roulette would be a more accurate analogy.
But just for the record, I'm not for banning bikes or guns.

Bottlenecks are caused by morons who slow down to 3mph to stare at an accident across the road, not cyclists! I'm assuming you don't plow through the cars in front of you or are you a 3mpher?
